-泰寮邊境的小鎮
Points of Interest & Landmarks
前一天去Dan Sai玩Phi Ta Khon Festival後.....第二天就跑來這個位於泰國,寮國邊境的小鎮Chiang Khan
Chiang Khan
See more..

-Massage in a homy Loei environment!
Monday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Spas
This is a very local spa/massage centre, operate by the locals. The ambient is just as homey as it can get. No fancy decoration, not much privacy as locals can be talking to each other while doign the massage! But it's all okay, everyone is so friendly, sincere and original. The Thai massage is different from other places in Thailand which we tried before. Really special and relaxing. The price is so reasonable as it is not spoiled by the tourism (yet?). See more..

- 5.0 Maloei - Museum of Art and Culture of Loei (1 review)
-amazing Thailand
Art Museums
MaLoei is situated on the grounds of Loei University, if you come by car or bicycle, the entrance is one little street left off the highway just before the big entrance to the university. Actually the museum was under restoration and closed. But when we asked in the downstairs office, a nice guy opened up the whole museum for us, switched on lights and air condition - amazing Thailand! The museum has a lot to offer, from Loei at the time of the dinosaurs to modern art, but most interesting historical artefacts and explanations. In any case worth a visit. Good and clean toilets with funny - Pithakhon - signs. CLOSED MONDAYS and TUESDAYS. See more..

For Phu Kradueng This trip is a trip that I go in the winter, the weather is very cold when I walk up to the top of the mountain. I would like to recommend my friends that they get physically fit before coming. In the morning there will be a very beautiful fog and the weather is so cold that I don't want to put my hands in the water at all. See more..

-Beautiful view of mountains
Spent 1-2 hours Mountains
Beautiful view of the mountains and the Mekong river! Go early in the morning to see the fog over the mountains. You cannot go all the way to the mountains with your own car. You can buy tickets for transport which will bring you to the top of the mountain. See more..

-An Honest Thai Boatman for Riverside Boat Trip of Chiang Khan Walking Street
Spent 1-2 hours Flea & Street Markets
I'm a white guy from the USA and I HATE being treated like I come from streets of gold. It's exhausting to either constantly bargain for a fair price or to be stonewalled with a double pricing scheme. I'm so grateful that I met Mr. Wat!! He loves the river and gave me a cheap price. He can't speak English, but his humble smile let's you know that you can trust him - and you can! I was so impressed by how long the trip was despite the low price that I'm volunteering to promote him online. Thailand needs more guys like Mr. Wat. PLEASE Support him. His boat is on the river across from Smile @ Chiang Khan restaurant. See more..

-Good views from 1,365 meters. Cold weather in late November
Spent 1-2 hours Mountains • National Parks • Waterfalls
We came for the sunset and enjoyed the walk up for the last part in fresh clean air. Took about 10 minutes to walk slowly. There are toilets on the way but I saw no toilet at the top. On the way down we took the shared vehicle for 10 Baht each person. Entrance ticket 40 Baht. Car park fee 30 Baht. Saw about 10 other tourists. I heard that the sunrise view is better. See more..
- 4.5 Huai Krathing Reservoir (62 reviews)
-Relaxing experience on the water
Bodies of Water
When Loei people invite tourists to go “rafting,” they aren’t talking white water in raging rivers. They mean flat boats made with bamboo moored in the center of a placid lake. The experience is actually very relaxing and quite soothing during the hotter months. In addition to a nice view, there is a constant, subtle breeze to keep you cool and keep the insects at bay. We always combined our trips with a meal - the restaurant will bring the food out to you. If you visit Loei, definite accept an invitation to go “rafting.” See more..

-Super fun--exploring strange rock formations in a forest
Spent 1-2 hours Mountains
A wonderful place--especially loved the stone maze. You follow cute stone paths, no signs, to wander around. At one point the path is hidden behind a Buddha statue. To find the place is a challenge because there is very little signage in English, so here are important clues: turn off route 201 at Nong Hin. The road is hard to find. If you are coming from Loei you have to make a U-turn and get on to the service road in order to access the desired turn off. If you are coming from Phu Kradeung, at the first intersection in Ban Nong Hin, move left onto the service road, go past a school and the district health office then turn left. The road is very good. It is 18 km to the site. At 13 km you reach the ranger station, then 5 km after that you need to turn right, under a red wooden archway that says "Kunming". The place is not far from that turn off. - 4.5 Phi Ta Khon Festival (14 reviews)
-A unique experience!
Cultural Events
Thailand is a country filled with her own ghosts and demons unique to this country. One of the most famous festival involving spirit-beings, is the Phi-Ta-Khon festival held in Loei province. Originally thought to celebrate the return of Prince Vessandorn, Lord Buddha-to-be, to the village after leaving for a long journey, the villagers were celebrating with so much joy and made such loud noises that it woke the spirits from the dead to join in. The most well-known sight of this festival would be the parade where villagers walk in procession in colorful clothes, and a ghost-mask made from the wicker-steamer used to cook stick-rice, the staple diet of Northeastern Thailand. This festival is one that shows off the painting skills of Thai artists as well. See more..

- 4.5 Wat Somdet Phu Ruea Ming Mueang (8 reviews)
-Wow! Wow! WOW!!!
Spent 1-2 hours Religious Sites
Just when I thought no temple could further amaze me, I came upon this incredible place. It is a new temple complex (in the works for some eight years now) and is still "a work in progress." But what is already in place is phenomenal! The wood temple buildings are adorned with massive elaborate wood carving, green stone (from Myanmar) carved Buddha and naga statues, wide wooden floor planks (some a meter in width), and one jaw-dropping construction after another. The main wooden temple building has massive 4-meter high wooden carved doors, and eight huge wooden carved wall panels (each almost 5 meters square). There are other massive wood carvings on the outside walls of other buildings, depicting the evils/sins of humans and their related punishments in the afterlife, and the progression to good and higher level bliss. I can't say enough about the awe-inspiring nature of this temple, which seems to be largely overlooked by most visitors. See more..

If you're in Loei province and traveling between Loei City and Dan Sai, this temple is definitely worth a visit. Rustic but amazing.... See more..
- 4.5 Phupha Lom Forest Park (7 reviews)
-A great hike
Parks • Forests
Not many visitors come here - we did not see any while we visited, and the rangers were very happy to greet us. To get into the park, you have to go up a lot of steps to the "skywalk" - so you do need a decent level of fitness. There are then steps down and a good concrete trail. The first sight is Phalom cave (a 300 m side trail, half of which requires uphill scrambling). The cave is worth exploring, but you must bring a good flashlight. The trail continues through the forest to the campsite (great views) and onto the Phabong viewpoint: a fantastic sight! Although the visitor centre map indicates a loop trail, in practice the remainder of the loop is overgrown: so we back tracked. Note that there is no food or drink available at the park: bring your own, especially water. There was no entrance fee. See more..

- 4.0 Erawan Cave (21 reviews)
-Nice Surpise in North-East of Thailand
Caverns & Caves
Many visitors head directly to the beach regions or numerous islands or to the North. North-East Thailand (Isaan) is not that frequented by the tourists which is really pity. The landscape there is on the average not that spectacular as in the North but theer are some hidden gems which are definitely worth seeing. The cave of Erawan far exceeded my expectations. I was hoping to see a few square meters with some statues but the cave could accomodate a big village! For those leaving Luang Prabang in Laos towards Thailand, I would recommend instad of the classical Vientiane-Non-Khai route to head towards the province of Loei and visit the Erawan Cave and Phu Kradeung National Park. See more..
- 4.0 Phu Pa Po (20 reviews)
-Phu Pa Po
Lookouts
Phu Pa Po, Loei Province, the atmosphere of the beautiful scenery. On the viewpoint, you can clearly see Phu Ho that looks like a cutting mountain or a flat mountain. Especially during the sea of fog. There will be a balcony extending out. allowing you to stand up close and enjoy the view can watch the sunrise and sunset got it all. See more..
- 4.0 Phu Bo Bit (18 reviews)
-Probably the best viewpoint of Mueang Loei
Mountains • Lookouts • Parks
After being closed for about a year for a much needed makeover, Phu Bo Bit has reopened. The new pathway is very nice and in addition is well lit if you are going up for the sunrise or coming down after sunset. The view in all directions is incredible. The climb is not too difficult, but it will get your heart pumping. Reaching the summit is well worth it. We enjoyed a lunar eclipse on the night of Loy Krathong from one of the best viewpoints in Mueang Loei. See more..
- 4.0 Phu Ruea High Altitude Agricultural Research Station (17 reviews)
-A great and easy visit to the top of the mountain
Speciality Museums
We were travelling from Loei to Khao Kor and stopped off for a visit. It's very easy to find the turning off route 21 to the entrance to Phu Ruea National Park. Pay the entrance fee at the park gate, stop off at the visitor centre for very clean toilets, then drive up to the peak. You drive to a car park about 1km from the peak and park. You then either walk the km or take the songthaew (b10 per person each way) that runs back and forwards. We arrived at the peak as the mist/cloud came swirling in and out. We never got to see down from the peak but that was ok, the mist was very atmospheric like something from a horror movie and my wife and kids who are not familiar with fog were captivated...my wife said after our holiday that this was her favourite memory. Well worth a visit. 60 kms from Loei (very nice drive). 1365m high peak. When we visited it was 17c at the peak and 25c at route 21. See more..
- 4.0 Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary (11 reviews)
-See more animals in my local village
National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
If you want to go to Phu Luang wildlife sanctuary head out on highway 21 from Lodi till you find the signage leading to the Park. It's quite a drive and probably the best part of the trip. The road there is not to bad till you get to the checkpoint for the park, it cost 250 baht to take the car in with 2 people (Falang and Thai). 200 baht for the Falang. The road deteriorates from the there a few holes and ruts, a few dangerous hill crests and some very narrow sections. The sanctuary itself was very disappointing, we were warned to watch out for elephants but only noticed a few dung piles. The only animals we saw were one monkey and two chickens, very disappointing. At the top there was nowhere to buy water or anything. The views were quite ordinary as most of the time you can't see over the tree line or on some paths you are just walking through jungle. I suppose if you are really into hiking and camping out it might appeal See more..
