Most local inhabitants live on Trawangan in a township stretching along its east side just inland (which is also where most recent development is taking place). Automobiles and motorized traffic are prohibited on the islands by local ordinance, so the preferred method of transportation is by foot and bicycle or the horse-drawn carriage. We had a great couple of days lazing at Warung Turtle on Tanjung Aan Beach. About 15 minutes by car from Kuta. IDR 10000 to park your car or scooter all day and under cover. The beach was very clean and the sand soft and white. Not too busy in January as low season. We got 2 beach chairs and a beach shack. Nice cold drinks from Warung Turtle and lovely food. Lots of people selling stuff but you don't have to buy anything, just a pleasant " No Thankyou." I didn't feel pestered at all. There are lots of dogs roaming around but they didn't bother us. Lots of surfers heading out to the reef but a really beautiful beach for swimming. See more..

We initially planned to visit Pantai Madalika Kuta, Pantai Aan and Pantai Mawun. When we arrived to Pantai Mandalika Kuta we were disappointed that development has crept on. The beach is still lovely but it was not what we expected. We then diverted towards Pantai Aan and found that the access road was closed (construction of the MotoGP circuit and facilities we reckon). Our driver then decided to bring us to Pantai Mawun. IT WAS AH-MA -ZING!!!! Beautiful cove. Aquamarine waters of different shades, some fishermens’ boats. Few people except locals and 2 Spanish speaking visitors. A little sad to look at d amount of rubbish that was brought by the waters .... but the water is still lovely. Do visit this beach as soon as possible. With MotoGP starting here in 2021 things will be way different soon. See more..

The boat drivers took us to several reef sites with wonderful coral and fish. One of the most spectacular was near a cave. The coral near that cave were among the most varied and beautiful I have ever seen in Indonesia in 40 years of visiting. We visited Gili Nanggu in January 2016 and loved it. i was interested to see if it was still as good 4 years later and it is. We did a day trip from Kuta Lombok and the snorkelling was actually better than 4 years ago. The coral has grown more and there are still relatively few visitors, especially in January. The were only about 4 to 5 other boats when we were there. The fish life is still healthy and the beach was very clean. There are still little huts where you can put your bags, towels etc and there were plenty of bins around. This time around I even found the harbour where the small boats go from a lot cleaner. This place is great for spending time watching sunset and enjoy the holiday. Price is ok, not expensive. The walk to these two waterfalls (Tiu Kelep and Sindang Gila) is a good couple of hours round trip and well worth it. Absolutely breathtaking scenery and swimming in Sindang Gila is unforgettable. There's a cave behind the falls that is nice to climb into and it is so refreshing to swim there after the hike you won't want to leave. Watch for wild monkeys on the way and be careful walking up the river, it can be a bit dangerous at times. This little trek is a nice warm up for climbing Mt Rinjani and you get to enjoy plenty of exposure along the way. Don't miss these waterfalls if you're in the area. Although it was the toughest trek I had ever done, both mentally and physically, it was one of the most exhilarating trekking of our life. Dhyns Rinjani Hiking arranged everything for us, including go to waterfall I wanted to do on arrival day , and pick up and drop off around Lombok. I had a superb guide who was constantly checking i had anything I needed and provided me with more than enough food and constant supply of coffee, cookies, and even cigarettes. I wouldn't really recommend this beach for swimming nor for surfing when the waves are massive and strong but it was really very beautiful to watch them crashing on its shores. I was enchanted with the waves that I sat on the beach the whole time around when I was there. There are a few friendly dogs in the area. You can also climb the mountains there to get a spectacular view of the area. I like this beach so much that we drove here twice with our rental bike. See more..

Mattmas warung does a ceviche and sashimi for about £3 We ate at the lagoon mostly No ATM here the nearest in Rasabou (which is also the medical centre ) is about 20 mins by ped but didn’t work so an hour trip to Dompu for cash ( No one accepts cards here ) Balumba coffee on the sea front is the best coffee I’ve found on our travels run by a lovely local family ! As a non surfer there’s not a lot to do ... swimming and snorkelling in the bay .. play pool and ping pong ... read a book on your lounger ! See more..

I always love to come to this kind of place, they have their own stories to tell that the book of history at your school never mentioned and I was very lucky to meet such a wonderful staff that willing to explain all the things that inside the museum 1st floor had a lot of handicrafts, Keris (local weapon that also stated on one’s status), tools and also the crown that was made from golds with lots of diamonds (although they only show the picture of it ), old manuscript and steam tools that even the Dutch itself didn’t know about it (they presume it was a little canon since it really do look like canon with a rather small size) 2nd floor was the bedroom of sultan family and guest (1st Indonesia president had stayed here before), bathroom, servant room and throne area. Went here on a tour with Kencana Adventure Komodo Trip, the island is so small, with diameter just around 700 meters. Has a white sand all over the island, and in the center grows many Coconut trees. There is a couple who stay there during daylight, they sell young coconut and some instant noodles. The price for the coconut is less then 1 USD or 10.000 rupiahs. The beach was lovely, and you can snorkel there, but be aware because the current is quite strong in the middle. Rarely people go here, so the island and the coral still consider a virgin. Tips: 1. Bring money, the couple is poor and old, you can help them by buying the coconut. It taste good also. 2. If you are an amateur snorkel, you may need a guide. 3. Dont litter in the island. See more..

Although, the 2.5 hours drive from Sengigi beach was worth it for seeing this Indonesia second highest Volcanic mountain. We met the many locals monkeys from the bottom of the mountain and at the viewing platform. They are friendly, not like the ones in Ubud Bali.
