Gili Air Island, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

4.0 (204 reviews) Spent More than 3 hours Ranking #22 in Lombok Islands

Good island to have vacation

Gili air is located between gili trawangan and gili meno but i prefer Gili Air because not too crowded like trawangan but not very quiet like gili meno. This place is great for spending time watching sunset and enjoy the holiday. Price is ok, not expensive. View restaurants that can options to eat but just a bit difficult to swim as the other side is many small boats parks and the other side is so many rocks and shallow.

    Gili Air Bike Hire
Bike hire advice (applicable everywhere not just Gili) Rule 1. Shop around and beat them down until they cry. Rule 2. Discount for longer hire period, you will definitely use the bike every day, so don’t skimp a day. Rule 3. Ensure the bike has had some maintenance in the last 6 months! Check the brakes (make sure it’s not a sliver of rubber) and check the gears shift and take it for a test ride and go through the gears. Nothing worse than a chain falling off into the wheel. Rule 4. Get them to pickup the bike on your last day (don’t agree to extra charge for that) you are paying upfront so you could just leave it at your accommodation. Rule 5. Use a lock. Yes do it. Don’t argue with me. Some idiot could be tiddled and ride off on it. Rule 6. Adjust the seat for your height. Rule 7. If you can, get a bike with lights, street lighting is patchy. Enjoy

Beautiful island with a noise problem
The mosque on Gili Air apparantly has a new loudspeaker system. We've been coming to Gili Air for more than 20 years, but this year for the first time we were sleep deprived. Up to five times a day (and sometimes for more than an hour!) calls for prayer come out of the speaker system at a volumen that penetrates the last corner of that otherwise beautiful island. Especially from 4.45 a.m. to 5.50 a.m. sleep can become impossible if you don't wear ear plugs. I would recommend to look for accomodation far from the village. Or look for alternatives.
