    - We talk of women empowerment, Manipur has shown how it is done on ground. The rest of India and world can learn from it.
    Flea & Street Markets
    Ema Keithel Market image
The concept of Ima women market is unique in that more than 3,000 women run this market, earn livelihood for themselves and bread for their families and show to the world that women are more than equal in economic activities. This is an example that if women get an opportunity they can show that they are more than equal in business acumen, hard work and economic activities. Hearing of this market, I made it a point to visit this glorious place though I had nothing to buy. It was so pleasing to see women empowerment in action. Nowadays different sections of this market sell vegetables, fruits, fishes and household groceries, handloom items and other home requirements. A must visit place for all those who love women emancipation, empowerment and dignity to them. See more..

    Shri Govindjee Temple image
The idols of Krishna, Balaram and Subhadra are beautiful. However before going enquire into the timings of Aarti. We first went at 12.30 pm , when we were told that the inner sanctum is closed and will open at 3.30 pm. We reached there at 3.30 when the aarti had just started. However after the Aarti the door is closed and y ou have to wait for the next aarti timing to see the idols. So enquire the timings for the Aarti so that you can get a darshan of the idols or else you will have to just see the temple from inside without the Darshan See more..

    Keibul Lamjao National Park image
This is WRONGLY posted as in Bengal. This National Park is in Manipur, close to Imphal. As others have said - this is the only floating national park in the world, and the best time to visit is early morning. We had a great time there, and saw a few Sangai deer. The entry fee is nominal, and the guide was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He provided binoculars and a telescope for us, and took us on a short trip on the narrow boat. Although he was a volunteer, he was so interested in sharing all the information. We are glad we made this trip, although we had never heard of it before. See more..

    Religious Sites
    Shri Hanuman Thakur Temple image
This beautiful Hanuman Temple will surprise all those who have been seeing this largely revered deity in a particular form. It is the first temple where I saw the deity represented in a human form. The priest mentioned that this temple is thousands of years old but according to history available, this was built in 1725 CE. The main sanctum is beautiful and the priest willingly allowed photograph of the main deity to be taken. In the complex, there are a large number of monkeys at any time which cause moments of anxiety as well. There is a beautiful bell tower in the complex and entrance of the temple is beautiful as well. Kangla Fort image
If you are traveling to Imphal, Manipur and get a chance to see some must visit places, Kangla Fort should be on top of your list. It's a huge place and thus makes it next to impossible to see the whole place by walking. They have a guided golf cart/boogey facility and I would recommend that as you will come to know about the history of the place through the guide. It does comes with a price but believe me it's not that high rather reasonable and worth it. Entry also has fees but very nominal. It has got amazing history about Imphal rather Manipur and the place is very nice nad calm. It also has a musium inside. Overall must visit place. See more..

    Red Hill - Lokpaching image
Red Hill, 17km south of Imphal, was the site of a decisive battle between Allied and Japanese forces in 1944, and a brand new museum, opened here in June 2019. Called the India Peace Museum, it has won design awards, and rightly so. It is beautifully laid out and very informative, with just the right amount of material about the battle and its effect on the area to keep you interested without becoming bored. A video based on contemporary film footage brings home the conditions under which the men on both sides fought. The museum also includes a replica of a local farmhouse and a display of the costumes of many of the Manipuri tribes, whilst there is a Japanese war memorial by the entrance. All in all, well worth a visit. See more..
