They had excellent knowledge of the places and were able to spring surprises in the form of many offbeat and immersive experiences. They seem to know the North East like the back of their hand and are truly the best company to travel with in the North East. This is second largest Monastery in the world next to Potala Palace and largest in India. Constructed during 1680s, this impressive place of worship is associated with many miracles and legends. 7. 4.5 Madhuri Lake (201 reviews)
    - One of the most beautiful lakes ever visited
    Bodies of Water
    Madhuri Lake image
This lake is around 15-20 km from Bumla pass and people visit it along with Bumla. The lake has good hiking trail around. This is pristine and beautiful lake. If you hike the trail you will experience different beautiful parts or lake along with tree trails. It seem Koyla's Tanhai Tanhai song was shot here and hence they call it Madhuri Lake. Nice place to sit and relax. This place will not have any network due to security reasons. They have a small army canteen which provides Maggie and coffee. They just restarted after Covid so good options were limited. They were building other restaurants facilities. The weather was apt to enjoy in Oct but it seems in peak winter the lake freezes completely. All in all, a must visit place , a must do hike and a go to place to relax. See more..

Had a chance to take some photographs from helipad and the town looks beautiful. When visiting the monastery, the view from the top of the town in beautiful. 19. 4.5 Mechuka Valley (17 reviews)
    - Bowl- shaped heaveny Mechuka
Spent More than 3 hours Valleys
    Mechuka Valley image
The bowl- shaped valley was covered with vast meadows and evergreen pine forests. The snow-capped mountain tops could be seen from literally everywhere. The view was not only beautiful, but also heavenly! There was something sacred and angelic within the air. I could clearly hear and feel the breeze carelessly whispering and singing harmony lessons. Finally, I realized what it meant when someone said, "The ones who have suffered the most have the greatest hearts.". Because, despite all of the wars, migrations, and eluded civilizations, the people of Mechuka are one of the friendliest local you'll ever encounter. See more..

Dense jungle which gives you a great feel of the wild. Lots of Hornbills all around. But since it is dense, sighting of wild animal is rare. We did not see anything, though our guide saw a spotted deer crossing the road while trekking upto Haldibari. Plenty of birds - so do carry a big lens/binoculars. See more..

    Gorsam Chorten image
We visited Zemithang and stayed overnight there. On our return, we visited Gorsam Chorten to see the 12th century Stupa which is a part of Monpa tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. There is a Monastery attached to the Gorsam Chorten. Our host, Mr. Dorjee, explained the importance of the Stupa and why every 12 years it is opened to public to climb up. Next opening is March 2017. We circled the place three time keeping in mind the customs of Monpa people. We prayed there. It was a really good visit. Lost of Monpa history in the place. See more..

  24. 4.5 Eagle Nest Wildlife Sanctuary (10 reviews)
    - Prime birding site in the country.
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Eagle Nest Wildlife Sanctuary image
First of all, this is not in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh as has been mentioned on tripadvisor. This most beautiful sanctuary is in West Kameng district, headquarter of which is Bomdila. This correction should be made so that tourists get the perspective. It is approachable from Bhalukpong, Tenga and Rupa. Tawang is more than 200 kilometers from here and in Tawang they show total ignorance about this place. Though approach to this place is from Rupa in West Kameng district, the road is unpaved and difficult. But in terms of flora and fauna, this is the best place. The varieties of birds, mammals, insects, trees you get here is superb. Though not known to many people as Arunachal Pradesh has not developed tourism professionally, this place can beat the best anywhere in the country and even in the world. See more..
  25. 4.5 Gyangong Ani Gompa (9 reviews)
    - The JangChub Choeling Nunnery
    Architectural Buildings
    Gyangong Ani Gompa image
This small monastery has a few different names. It is accessible by either 20min cable car from outside Tawang monastery or by foot from the city of Tawang. I walked up all the way from Oygen Ling monastery and was really glad I did. This is a deeply spiritual place where the nuns are continually reciting their prayers and teachings. Perched near the very top of the mountain overlooking the deep valley, when the clouds clear. I was given tea almost as soon as I arrived, despite the nun being busy keeping the praying nuns watered with butter milk tea. There are many dogs up here that sleep for the most part and don't bother anyone. When I was here 6 local guys were stitching new duvets on the courtyard ready for the winter times. See more..

  28. 4.0 Ganga Lake (42 reviews)
    - Breathtakingly beautiful! perfect for winter or a rainy day hike, look out for leeches :D
    Bodies of Water
    Ganga Lake image
It was pouring when we planned our visit to Geker Senying (Ganga Lake), and we were about to give up since the roads that lead to Ganga lake are not the best. We made it somehow and had a great time. The hike around the lake was made even more breathtaking with the micro waterfalls. Look out for leeches if you are taking a hike during rains. There's facility for boating available as well. Also it would be handy to have a BSNL connection around here if you plan to stay for long. See more..
  29. 4.0 Urgelling Gompa (37 reviews)
    - Urgelling Gompa - The birth place of HH 6th Dalai Lama
    Architectural Buildings
    Urgelling Gompa image
Reckoned to be the birth place of His Holiness the 6th Dalai Lama, the Urgelling Gompa is about 03 kms from the main town of Tawang. Built about 600 years ago, this small monastery holds the great significance for the people of Buddhist faith from all over the world. Its said that just before leaving for Lhasa in Tibet, he had strucked his walking stick just inside the monastery gate which eventually grew into a huge oak tree which stands tall even to this day. The hand painted potraits of all the Dalai Lama is placed in the main hall and also to see and seek blessings is the imprints of feet and forehead of 6th Dalai Lama. As our hotel was just a couple of minutes walk away from this monastery, we had a chance to visit in the early morning and the monk who is also a caretaker was very kind to show us around and tell us many fascinating stories or legends about the monastery. Truly Blessed....!!!! See more..
