Ajanta and Ellora Caves are a not to be missed trip. The artwork and history found in each place is incredible. We quite happily spent a full day at each site exploring the many caves. M D Husain was a great driver, very happy to help us organise our trio with his expert suggestions. His pricing was fair and he is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the caves and area in and around Aurangabad. Over 2 days he took us to the two cave sites as well as several other places of interest in the Aurangabad area. He picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back each evening after some very satisfying exploration. I highly recommend him and he can be contacted via email ([email protected]) or via phone (+91 9923616671) See more..

-Nice excursion, even for a half day
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Castles
Wonderful visit. This is the perfect season to visit any Gad/ Fort. Weather is good, rains have stopped, so there's no moss/ mud etc. Less chances of slipping. Cool weather helps you walk more, faster, better. Sinhgad is visited by many - kids from school, couples, families, friends in groups. If possible, better to go on a weekday, so that there's less crowd. One gets very good Maharashtrian lunch on the Gad - Bhakri, Pithale, Vangyache Bharit, Matki Usal, Thecha etc. Kanda Bhaji, Dahi, Taak (Butter milk) are awesome. They just recharge your tired body. The view from above is great. One can spend either a full day or a half day as per time available. One can take his private vehicle up the fort and safely park (parking fees applicable). After that there are stone steps which one has to climb to visit various points on the Fort. See more..

- 4.5 Darshan Museum (1.148 reviews)
-A must visit if you are in Pune
Thursday: Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
FREE ENTRY TO ALL VISITORS --- Darshan is not really a 'museum' in the conventional sense of the term. Although it does what every museum does, keeps alive a memory, but at Darshan, it's done through 3D Holographics, Life-Like Statues, Realistic Sets, Hi-Def Audio, HD Video, Theatrical Lighting and much more!Darshan is the next step in story-telling. The visitor literally 'walks' into a scene and the scene 'plays out' before your eyes! Each scene is brought to life through realistic sets, and within the set are various props that help to recreate the scene before you. For the first time in the country has 3D Holographics been used in a show! Characters appear in thin air and act out scenes before your very eyes! A truly magical experience!Darshan tells the beautiful story of a Saint of Modern India, Sadhu T L Vaswani. He was a visionary, an educationist, a spiritual giant, a poet and much, much more! His life bore witness to the universal ideals of Unity, Brotherhood of all life, Compassion, Love for all, Peace. He inspired many to work for the cause of the independence of India alongside with Gandhi, he worked for women upliftment years before modern society did it, by starting a Women's Education Movement called the Mira Movement in Education. The Mira Movement in Education has now spread to many cities and thousands of young girls benefit from it. He was an animal rights activist, his birthday, 25th November, is celebrated as Animal Rights Day and crores of people pledge to abstain from food of violence on this day every year! He was a spiritual giant. He spread the Eternal Message of the Saints and Rishis amongst the common man and made the Divine accessible to everyone. Ever a believer in the Unity of All Life, He promoted no one religion but taught that all religions lead to but One Goal. The Paths are Many but the Goal is One! His spiritual poetry has been compiled into the largest compilation of Spiritual Poetry by a single author in the world! It is cal... See more..

- 4.5 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (976 reviews)
-If History Museums rock your boat
Thursday: 10:15 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours History Museums
My wife and I walked to the Museum from our hotel, using the hotel map. It was a flat walk and easy to do, especially after we learnt how to cross roads in India. We happily paid the foreigners visitors entry fee at the ticket office, just to the left inside the main gate (near the shop and cafe) and received our passes. We did not take an Audio Guide, as we like to view what we are interested in. We also like to take all the time we need to view the exhibits and we didn't hurry. We enjoyed viewing the gardens outside the exhibition building, especially the statues. We didn't pay extra to take photos inside and put our cameras away. We started by climbing to the top floor and found that on each floor, there is a corridor to an annex where there are more things to see. It is way easier to start at the top and walk down. The Art, Archaeology and Natural History exhibitions include some of the oldest artifacts that I have ever seen. Some pottery pieces over 4,000 years old. We loved the Japanese and Chinese artifacts in the glass cases and my wife really liked the sari and textile collections, in another section of the museum. The museum isn't modern and doesn't have any of the full room audio visual displays of prehistoric animals wandering through the undergrowth, like you see in other international venues. It does have however, have real exhibits, not make-believe ones. We spent around two and a half hours in the museum and a further 30 minutes in the shop buying souvenirs of our visit, including a Hindu statue and some nicely packed Indian tea varieties. A visit to this Museum is highly recommended. See more..
- 4.5 Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple (957 reviews)
-Jai Mahadev.
Religious Sites
Luckily we went to the jyotirlinga at such a time where there was no crowd during weekdays and we had a very peaceful visit. You have to be bare-chasted ( Take all your clothes from upper part) which you can do before entering the temple as well no need to plan ahead for this. Do not carry mobile phones etc. but there are people where you can safely deposit your cell phone at INR 10/- per handset. And this is one of the temples where you can offer holy water, flowers etc. whatever local vendor is selling outside the temple as it's allowed to offer in shiv ling. For preforming pooja there is a counter once you enter the temple pay for the type of pooja and get the receipt to perform inside the temple. See more..

We're just back from Shirdi, the place we love to visit every year. Because of the bandh declared on 19th January, we had a very peaceful darshan. Not much crowd, no hawkers, no distractions. The security inside the temple were also very patient and well behaved with the devotees. We were very happy with the most satisfying darshan seeking Baba's blessings. Om Sai Ram See more..

-Bhimshankar baba ki jai

Bhimshankar baba is located in sahayadri mountain range , a Serene location near Pune. Car parking is a little more than a km away . However there are young lads offering to take you close to the Mandir on their bikes , get Darshan and drop you back to car park for 2000 INR. Straight forward service and avoids the ghat road walking for those applicable . Swami Darshan was straight forward . We see Nandi, baba and sani bhagwan. The kalakand sold for a mere 100 INR for 250 gms is one of the best I have had . A must try . The MtDC hotel about 9 Kms away from temple is basic basic but handy for a nearby stay . Overall no complaints.Har jar maha dev. See more..
- 4.5 ISKCON NVCC Temple (810 reviews)
-Visit in the night !
Thursday: 4:30 AM - 1:00 PM, 4:30 PM - 9:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Religious Sites
Iskcon NVCC Temple was the first place that we decided to visit in Pune and it was a good decision that we went in the night as the lights dotting the temple were eye pleasing and serene. There is a food court and a lodge as well I believe for visitors to the temple just before we entered the main temple complex . Iskcon Temples are known to be grandeur and this one was no exception. Fountains and Gardens give the place a serenity. Once we were in, it was divine. The idols of all the deities are so beautiful that it will leave one mesmerized. We were on time for Aarti and it was an experience etched in memory. The walls and the roof of the temple has art work of the finest quality. After spending a wonderful time, we decided to grab some snacks at the food court which is when the air was filled with chants of ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’ and we saw a beautiful sight of people dancing to the tunes just being lost and enjoying the moment. There is parking available for 4 wheeler’s. See more..
- 4.5 Global Vipassana Pagoda (795 reviews)
-Beautiful getaway from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Monuments & Statues
The Global Vipassana Pagoda is a Meditation Hall near Gorai, North-west of Mumbai, India. The Pagoda was inaugurated by Pratibha Patil, then President of India on 8 February 2009.[1] It is built on donated land on a peninsula between Gorai creek and the Arabian Sea. The pagoda is to serve as a monument of peace and harmony. The Global Vipassana Pagoda has been built out of gratitude to the Buddha, his teaching and the community of monks practicing his teaching. Its traditional Burmese design is an expression of gratitude towards the country of Myanmar for preserving the practice of Vipassana. The shape of the pagoda is a copy of the Shwedagon Pagoda (Golden Pagoda) in Yangon, Myanmar. It was built combining ancient Indian and modern technology to enable it to last for a thousand years. The center of the Global Vipassana Pagoda contains the world's largest stone dome built without any supporting pillars. The height of the dome is approximately 29 metres, while the height of the building is 96.12 meters, which is twice the size of the previously largest hollow stone monument in the world, the Gol Gumbaz Dome in Bijapur, India. External diameter of the largest section of the dome is 97.46m and the shorter sections is 94.82m. Internal diameter of the dome is 85.15m.[4] The inside of the pagoda is hollow and serves as a very large meditation hall with an area covering more than 6000 m2 (65,000 ft2). The massive inner dome seats over 8000 people enabling them to practice the non-sectarian Vipassana meditation as taught by Mr S.N. Goenka and now being practiced in over 100 countries. An inaugural one-day meditation course was held at the pagoda on 21 December 2008, with Mr S.N. Goenka in attendance as the teacher. The aim of the pagoda complex is, among others, to express gratitude to Gautama Buddha for dispensing what followers believe is a universal teaching for the eradication of suffering, to educate the public about the life and teaching of the Buddha, and to prov...
