    Ajanta Caves image
Ajanta and Ellora Caves are a not to be missed trip. The artwork and history found in each place is incredible. We quite happily spent a full day at each site exploring the many caves. M D Husain was a great driver, very happy to help us organise our trio with his expert suggestions. His pricing was fair and he is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the caves and area in and around Aurangabad. Over 2 days he took us to the two cave sites as well as several other places of interest in the Aurangabad area. He picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back each evening after some very satisfying exploration. I highly recommend him and he can be contacted via email ([email protected]) or via phone (+91 9923616671) See more..

    - Certainly worth a visit

    Kanheri Caves image
This is an amazing attraction but difficult in hot weather. One of our group walked (nearly) to the top, but the rest of us settled for seeing about 30 of the caves. You certainly need to take the shuttle bus (very cheap) as it is about 5km from the entrance to the caves. See more..
  4. 4.0 Karla Caves (639 reviews)
    - Great climb to exceptional carved caves
    Caverns & Caves
    Karla Caves image
We were in Lonavala and wanted to head to the Karla caves. Being adventurous, we took an auto rickshaw (the most modern we could find) and roared up to the caves. The ride up was half the fun of the trip to the caves. It is worth doing if fit as there are some 200 plus steps up and down. There are places to stop for food and drink on the way and also many stores with religious bits and pieces. The caves are stunning. The whole temple is carved from the hill side. Worth a visit. - Pandava Caves (Pandav Leni)
    Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Caverns & Caves
    Pandav Leni image
One should definitely visit this place if you are heading to Nashik city. These caves are the best example of rock-cut sculptures and architecture of ancient times. This place is a safe and sound visit with the family. It is adjoined to the Nashik Agra highway. I am based in Nashik hence, I visit to this place every now and then. Snacks and foods stalls are available. The caves are located in the middle of the mountain therefore it will not be much exhausting to climb and visit. The Rock stairs are there to climb easily go up till caves and moreover, the stairs are not so steep, the stairs are slanting. Nearby hot locations would be Hotel Express Inn, The Gateway Hotel (Taj Hotel). See more..
  7. 4.0 Sita Gumpha (295 reviews)
    - Sita gufa
    Caverns & Caves
    Sita Gumpha image
Sita gumpha is located in panchvati in Nashik. This was the place where sita mata was hidden when Shri Ram ji had a battle with Khar and Dushan, brothers of Ravana. This incident took place post Shurpanakha incident in Ramayana. The cave is very narrow, only one person can enter at a time. Would not recommend senior citizens to visit the same as it can be physically demanding to get in and come out. See more..

As it was our first time , We took help of a local guide Ankush (95884 66223) who was too good. He stays near the starting point on trek and understands Hindi/ English . See more..
  9. 4.0 Pithalkhora Caves (23 reviews)
    - Another attraction of Aurangabad
    Caverns & Caves
    Pithalkhora Caves image
If you love sculpture and paintings of ancient India, this is a good place for you. Lonely, quiet, about 100km from Aurangabad. Personal car is absolutely required. It is assumed that this place was for buddhist learning centre. This cave proved that almost 1000 years ago of sultani dynasty came to india, India were well aware of "Zafri" work. there are 14 caves in two rows, by which only 4-5 caves are alive. Though there are work of sound aquisition are noticed. One have to go down by 250 meters from car park area to see the caves. See more..
  10. 3.0 Ancient Caves (17 reviews)
    - Vijjasan Buddhist Caves, Bhadrawati
    Caverns & Caves
    Ancient Caves image
These caves are believed to be carved by the Satvarna Kings in the 13th Century. They are located near the village of Bhadrawati on the Nagpur-Chandrapur Highway. Bhadrawati is approx 27km from Chandrapur. The Local Ambedkarite Buddhist community have held retreats in the area and erected a Buddha statue on the top of the mountain. Three simply carved caves feature Buddha statues. At the entrance on the left side is a statue of Padmapani. These caves are just a few of numerous Buddhist sites in Maharashtra. Sadly the Archaeoligical Survey of India seems uninterested in this area rich in Buddhist heritage. Many statues and Buddhist remains have been found in the area. Nearby in the same village is a Jain temple and a Hindu Temple that is at least several hundred years old. See more..

Beautiful experience of these caves which supposedly show signs of human occupation since 25000 years. Massive cavern in the big cave ... Seats 2000 people during the major festival. Tough climb up and down, and not for the fainthearted or those with physical issues. Unique experience. Road available almost to the base. The destination after the toughish climb( for amateurs) doesn't disappoint. See more..
