3.5Grand Bazzar(189 reviews) - Bazaar with a Middle-Eastern Flavor Points of Interest & Landmarks
Just as the name suggests, The Grand Bazaar or its official name,Urumqi International Bazaar is a shoppers' paradise. This place looks more like Middle-east or Central Asia than China. Most of the shops here are run by the Uyghurs and the goods sold here have a distinct Islamic flavor. If you are in Urumqi for a short visit, then this is the place for you to soak in the some local atmosphere, taste some Uyghur food and get some souvenirs. Items sold here are mostly cheap clothings, scarves, local handicrafts, musical instruments, hats, carpets, nuts and fruits. It is a very colorful place with much to see and buy (if you love shopping). Like most public places in this region, visitors will have to go through stringent security check before entering the bazaar complex.See more..
4.0Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves(146 reviews) - Nice to see the mountains around Sunday: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Caverns & Caves
Time have passed and not much are left to be seen but I enjoyed walking there. I prefer this more than the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang. In Bezeklik, some rooms were opened for visitors to view, some were locked. It was a very nice visit for the views around. Easy to go from Turpan town by taxi.See more..
3.5Karez System(146 reviews) - Another china engineering marvel Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Bodies of Water • Points of Interest & Landmarks
rated the 3rd marvel after Great Wall n Grand Canal, this describe how a desert region can survive for the past 3000 years. Water from the snow capped mountains were directed through thousand miles of man made underground tunnels. Wells n tunnels were dug all the way from melting mountains to irrigate the crops at the desert lowlands. Really interesting n yet not well published like the Great Wall. This place is exceptionally hot in summer and you could see beds on rooftops. Cooler to sleep on rooftops. See more..
I am awed, speechless. No words can describe the beauty of the lake during winter month. I feel so small and ugly standing next to this magnificent beauty. It’s Heaven on Earth. During this month of January, temperature falls below -21 degrees. See more..
It was an amazing (and mind-boggling) ancient way of providing water in desert land, by using a series of wells supplying underground water for human consumption and for other uses.See more..
4.0Red Hill(74 reviews) - Worth a visit Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas • Lookouts

4.5Khunjerab Pass(45 reviews) - 16000 ft - Highest Border of World Points of Interest & Landmarks
I have been to this Place (Pakistan Side) for 6 times starting from August 2014. It is always scenic and breathing problems at 16000 ft always happen especially when you are not acclamatized to it from Sost. You need to walk for 10 minutes from Parking to get closer to the Border Monument. Weather is chilly there even in summer. The Snow Capped peak always give you breathtaking views and neighbouring visitors a cherish and treat to be with them. Security personnel are cooperative in nature provided you are following security protocols.See more..
4.0Dabancheng Wind Power Station(42 reviews) - Da-bang! Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
The Dabancheng Wind Power Station is a neat place for a quick stop on the drive to Turpan (and the return too I suppose). We stopped for a few minutes here recently to admire the gigantic wind turbines generating immense amounts of power for the region. I have my issues with wind power generators but as this isn’t the forum for it, this is an interesting stop nonetheless for the sheer size of it all.See more..
Truly amazing. I was rendered speechless. My life has been changed. Forever. As I stood by this fine work of architecture, I could feel Asia pulsing through me. I could feel it all, from the snow leopards roaming free in the mountains of Afghanistan, to the aromas of cinnamon and star anise in the markets of Bengal, to the drug-dealing taxi drivers of South East Asian towns, to the members of a professional Georgian football team passing a ball around in their training session, under the false impression that they are Europeans and training hard in a bid to land Europa league qualification, which given their socio-economic status and their culture of locking women in cupboards, is a complete joke. All of these things have one thing in common, their connection to this flimsy wire structure. A structure I was standing by. A tear came to me eye. I realised that myself and this grand continent were one. See more..
3.0Upal Village(10 reviews) - Great food, lovely village Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is a great place to stop for lunch on the way to/from Tashkurgan to Kashgar. Traditional Uighur and Tajik fare like rice pilaf with carrot and pumpkin and lamb, kebabs, breads and loads of fruit. Try the local tea which is made from black te, goji berry, saffron and cardamom. Lovely!See more..

3.5Tu Lu Fan Qing Nian Lu Bu Xing Jie(7 reviews) - Great Vine Tunnels Sunday: 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
The Qingnian Pedestrian Street runs in a north and south direction between Wenhua Middle Road and Laocheng Middle Road. It is actually a tiled walkway which is covered by grave vines, and a great area to take a break from the heat of Turpan. There are two sculptures at the entrance on Laocheng Middle Road, on either side of a wide Uighur styled entrance gate. A short walk north on the street, and a left turn will lead to the Tourism Cultural Square. We thought that this area was very well done and beautifully maintained. There are not many green public areas in Turpan, so this is a must see. Other nearby attractions include the Turpan Museum and Shenhong Square.See more..

4.5Shipton's Arch(6 reviews) - Must visit! Points of Interest & Landmarks • Geologic Formations
Photos do not do justice to this amazing place! You have to see it for yourselves! We booked a day trip with China Silk Road Tours. It was a 2-hour drive from Kashgar and another 2 hours hiking up and down. The hike up was not too bad - terrain was mostly rock, with some stairs and snow/ice (in winter). I would recommend bringing snacks and water as there were no shops around. Because it was winter, my husband and I had the whole place to ourselves. It was just magical!See more..

4.0Tuanjie Square(4 reviews) - you cannot avoid it Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
it is impressing as a monument, but the nicest thing is the story behind the statues and the structures, it is the story of an old men, who was the follower of MAO TSE DONG , and traveled with his donkey, all the way from Hotan to Beijing to meet the leader and became a national hero.See more..
4.0ShaChe DiYiJie(3 reviews) - three time zones in one Points of Interest & Landmarks
Yarkant (Shache) town centre hums with activity. Metalsmiths grinding and making tools throw sparks in to the road which is full of 2 wheeled, 4 whelled and 4 legged transport vying for position. The centre is busy, bustling and polluted with great street food and little restaurants along all the central roads (some delicacies include animal hearts etc but lots of more familiar food also). Lots of barrows with the fantastic Xinjiang cakes and biscuits, about 20 kuai for one liang of the Xinjiangese sweet biscuit with honey, dates etc that is very expensive outside of Xinjiang. Work out the town a little in to the side roads and lots of stunning and interesting old homes are dotted around the drabber new buildings. Yarkunt is lively and fun, foreigners will get bit of attention here and there but not as much as in BJ/SH/GZ etc. Han Chinese visitors to this Uighur side of town would be advised to stick close with International travel companions if they have them. All resident Han we talked to rarely if ever left the newbuild alternative centre of Yarkant to visit the real centre around DiYiJie so they may have good reason, this sid it is very cosmopolitan with people from all the nationalities from the close by passes presents- meaning big variety of Central Asian dishes/restaurants nearby. Foreigners are only supposed to stay in the big hotel near the hospital and get permission first so get the accomodation sorted as soon as you arrive to save getting caught short later.See more..
Being a Xibo visiting the region ancestors lived for the past 250 years since the greatest migration in history from their home in the northeast over 5000km away in 1764, when 3000 of them took a year to walk via Mongolia the quickest route, I didn't know what to expect, but was glad of the visit. Although the ticket office by the gate gave discount for most from senior, junior, public sector staff and students, but they wont for Xibo people even traveled thousands of miles to come! Inside the courtyard buildings looked fairly new, with archery ground, different rooms with display of history of the minority which is small in population with big personality, specialize in archery, riding & fighting. Also recorded their first ever group of 11 junior school students including grandfather at the age of only 8 sent to Russia. Having been to Khorgas now next destination back to their origin Fuyu Jilin!See more..

4.5Amannishahan Memorial Mausoleum(2 reviews) - Music for the Ages Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Monuments & Statues
Amannishahan was the Concubine of a Yarkand Khan and is buried in the general "Tombs of the Yarkand Khans" complex. She is memorable for having pulled together in one place some 340 Uigher folk songs, dances, and other music in a written format before it was lost to the ages. See more..
4.0Yamalike Mountain Tourist Scenic Area(2 reviews) - Wannabee Scenic Area Sunday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
This is a mountain area recently forested and being turned slowly into a park. I wouldn'\t really describe it as a tourist scenic area YET. It used to be a massive slum of adobe houses until they were all razed for the scenic area so it is more embryonic than fully formed. Worth a visit though since you get fantastic views over Urumqi on a clear day and in the winter the higher you climb the more you get out of the smog.See more..
4.0Anjihai Great Canyon(1 review) - Transport to Anjihai. Points of Interest & Landmarks
Well worth the effort. If you have not got your own transport you can negotiate a private car or taxi. It cost me 240 RMB for a round trip about 3.5 hrs in total. Drivers hang around the train and bus stations. There are no bus to the area.See more..

See more..
4.0Altyn Mosque(1 review) - One of the sights no to miss on the square Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Monuments & Statues
The Altyn Mosque ( 阿爾丁清真寺;) is a mosque in Yarkand. The mosque is located (N 38.415600 E 77.257900) on the square – the Al Tun Historical and Cultural plaza - where you also find the Mausoleum of Amannisa Khan and the photogenic City palace of Yarkand. The mosque is located on the east side of the A Le Tun road, about 200 meters north of the crossing of Lao Cheng road. Beyond the mosque is a cemetery housing the tombs of the Khans of Yarkand. Because we visited Yarkand late in the afternoon, the mosque was closed and we only have seen the exterior. The painted ceilings, we unfortunately couldn’t see. A visit to the mosque is a must see because it is one of the nice buildings around the square; the mosque and those other buildings form to my opinion the highlight of Yarkand.See more..
2.0Geographic Center Of Asia Continent(1 review) - Centre of the known World Sunday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks Not a lot here except a pendulum denoting the centre of Central Asia. Everything is a bit tired-a few displays to brighten up an otherwise uninspiring spot in the middle of a dry plain. Try to rent bikes and cycle out here-at least you will then get a little bit of a feel for the place in context.See more..
