I start by saying that you should spend at least 2 days inside the park. Numerous small hotels and restaurants are available at reasonable prices. The whole park is amazing and very good to you health. I would recommend to buy souvenirs here as the prices are not overpriced. See more..

Kaifeng, located south of the Yellow River was totally flooded several time in history and most of its history is buried under layers of mud. The Iron Pagoda was constructed on a hill (great foresight) so after the many flooding through the centuries, it is now at ground level. So it is about the only authentic historical structure left in Kaifeng. We climbed to the top, thankfully we were the only ones in our group to do so as the space inside is extremely tight and it is very hard to pass another person. It reminded me of the Cu Chi tunnels of the Viet Cong. Relics of the Buddha have been found here under the Pagoda. See more..

This is a large park with several different sections. The garden has beautiful peonies when they are in season. It has a couple of lakes. It is large enough to spend several hours, or several visits. Just south of the Luoyang Museum (another highlight), so convenient to do both. At the moment access is difficult from the south side because of the subway construction, so I'd advise planning on the west or north gate entrances. See more..

If you visit in May the weather is lovely but over Labour Day celebrations everywhere is twice as busy. The People's Park is a pretty public garden area which is free to stroll around. On the holiday weekend it is full of people out to enjoy the time off with their friends and relatives. Small groups playing music and singing traditional songs formed a lovely backdrop to looking at the fabulous flowers and trees. Despite the throngs it is still possible to find a quiet spot to watch the fish in the water lily pond or breathe in the perfume of the flowers. See more..

This is a beautiful mountain park outside of Xixia City in Henan province. From the long-distance bus station, just jump in a taxi and give the name of the park! It should cost no more than 10 yuan! In October there were still many flowers blooming, but with warm and humid weather comes mosquitos! The early winter (Nov, Dec) is a good time to visit - there should be snow! It costs 20 Yuan per person to enter. There are 3 entrances, east gate, the park gate and the arboretum gate. There is a road that takes you up to the Ran Deng Temple, which is currently being restored. There are several (or more) sets of marble stairs that lead up to the top of MaTou mountain, passing by marble carvings of dragons "Jiulongbi", clouds, and other creatures. There is a beautiful giant Buddha marble carving, called the Jade Buddah, at the top. If you make it back down and are still ready for adventure there is a waterfall and pools of water and many other hiking trails. We walked from the gate, up the road, to the top of the temple, back down, and hiked to the "black dragon pool" all in 6 hours. If you are physically fit, then you'll love this park! Otherwise, visiting the temple is a wonderful experience (and you don't have to climb all the way to the top to enjoy it!). The park is under rennovation, including repair of roads, and roadsides, garbage removal, and of course the temple is being restored. There is also an arboretum, but we didn't make it there! The nine dragons waterfalls (local people call it Jiulongpu) is a cool place for a hot summer. The magnificent landscape is worth of a visiting. The park is free to visitors. On the way to the mountain top, you can enjoy local food and drinks. The local community also provide accommodations for visitors if you would like to stay there longer. It's better go there with friends or with local travell agency with cars or coaches since it is quite remote area, there is no public transport at this moment. See more..

The Luya Waterfalls was very close to our hotel. You can buy entrance tickets at the main gate then you can drive on in (it's another 2 km) to the scenic area. At that place there are small shops for water, ice cream, fish nets etc. Then there's one main trail to hike up. It's a mix of stairs and rock formation. It's not a difficult hike, just a lot of steps. It is quite pretty. We didn't have time to go all the way up unfortunately, but I heard there were more scenic areas up top. See more..
