This is a beautiful mountain park outside of Xixia City in Henan province. From the long-distance bus station, just jump in a taxi and give the name of the park! It should cost no more than 10 yuan! In October there were still many flowers blooming, but with warm and humid weather comes mosquitos! The early winter (Nov, Dec) is a good time to visit - there should be snow! It costs 20 Yuan per person to enter. There are 3 entrances, east gate, the park gate and the arboretum gate. There is a road that takes you up to the Ran Deng Temple, which is currently being restored. There are several (or more) sets of marble stairs that lead up to the top of MaTou mountain, passing by marble carvings of dragons "Jiulongbi", clouds, and other creatures. There is a beautiful giant Buddha marble carving, called the Jade Buddah, at the top. If you make it back down and are still ready for adventure there is a waterfall and pools of water and many other hiking trails. We walked from the gate, up the road, to the top of the temple, back down, and hiked to the "black dragon pool" all in 6 hours. If you are physically fit, then you'll love this park! Otherwise, visiting the temple is a wonderful experience (and you don't have to climb all the way to the top to enjoy it!). The park is under rennovation, including repair of roads, and roadsides, garbage removal, and of course the temple is being restored. There is also an arboretum, but we didn't make it there! The magnificent landscape is worth of a visiting. The park is free to visitors. On the way to the mountain top, you can enjoy local food and drinks. The local community also provide accommodations for visitors if you would like to stay there longer. It's better go there with friends or with local travell agency with cars or coaches since it is quite remote area, there is no public transport at this moment.See more..
