- 4.0 Lijing Gate (100 reviews)
-Just a tourist spot
Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ancient Ruins
A beautiful gate, barbican and city wall. Unfortunately, it is not a real ancient architecture. It is a rebuilt historical site. There are many stores and shops "in" the city wall and pavilions. So, seen from outside, it is an awesome “old” City Gate; seen from inside, it is a big shopping mall. ……a little ridiculous. It is really a good place to take pictures. But remember, it is not a real historical spot. See more..
- 4.0 Kaifeng City Wall (31 reviews)
-2nd best small city in china
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Ancient Ruins
This little city is very different. It has on the surface a combination of different religions more so than other cities in china. It has Buddhism, Taoism, kong zi also. Its only 1 level high as all the dynasties before it have been flooded and its hasn't been rebuilt on like other cities. I think this element makes it amazing to go and see. You can take a rickshaw around town for 50-100rmb for a few hours and get the driver to take you to some nice local restaurants. Great for a few days. See more..

Ancient Ruins
Tang Dynasty Heavenly Hall partially rebuilt on the ruins of the original site. The original foundation can still be seen. The palace interior is elegantly reconstructed. A detailed model of the Tang capital is available on display inside showing the court entourage order. When you visit the attraction at night, the lights display were impressive re-enactment the glory of the past days. This attraction is a must-see during your visit to Luoyang if you want to understand the Tang heritage of the city See more..
- 3.5 The Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum (7 reviews)
-If you have time
Wednesday: 7:30 AM - 6:30 PM Ancient Ruins • Cemeteries
Nothing really good or bad about this place. The mausoleum itself is simple and spacious. There's a temple inside. You need to buy the incense. After that, be careful, the merchant would try to sell you a lot of stuffs. She would said that these are for your family's wishes/ protection/ prosperity etc. Then in the end, it comes with a price tag. An expensive one. You need to take an electric car (separate fee) to the tomb itself. Well, just to the entrance actually. The walk/climb up to the tomb takes around 15 minutes. Along the way, you'll meet some persistent vendors of little stuffs. If you're not interested, just completely ignore them. The tomb itself is quite simple. Totally not extravagant as I had imagined. - 3.0 Astronomical Observation Terrace (7 reviews)
-Not for everyone, but probably fascinating for engineers and physicists
Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ancient Ruins
Using this observatory the Chinese managed to calculate the length of the day to within 12 seconds of the value we know today. Unfortunately on the day we went, air pollution prevented us from getting a shadow. There are marks from 2nd World war Japanese shells fired at what they took to be a military observation post. We were the only people present on the day we went apart from our guide and the staff. Our guide said he only went here about once a year as it wasn't that popular. There is a second scale model which makes it slightly easier to understand what is going on. Remember that noon is when the sun is overhead and with all of China on a single timezone, the local noon might be somewhat different to what it says on your watch. It could stand improvement of the explanation with diagrams and more English text. Probably not suitable for small Children with a short attention span. Incidentally we found a scale model of this in the Beijing science museum. See more..

Ancient Ruins
See more..

-A very quiet place, how it should be
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM Ancient Ruins • Cemeteries
If you go at a certain time during the year, ie. weekdays, when people have school, you don't see many people here. I went with my boyfriend and saw 3 persons in total. Amazing for taking pictures and experiencing culture. It makes me feel like that's how a grave should be, quiet and not packed with tourists. Very satisfied visit overall. See more..

-Amazing Tomb Paintings
Wednesday: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM Ancient Ruins
The tombs are off the beaten track, but if you are near Zhengzhou, a visit is well worth the effort. The tombs are of two officials from the Eastern Han Dynasty. Admission is 20 RMB. There are two tombs, both with several rooms with paintings on the walls and ceilings. One of the tombs' paintings are in very vibrant colors, which is amazing considering they are at least 1,800 years old. See more..

-King of Zheng Tomb and Chariot Burial
Ancient Ruins
Reconstructed tomb of King of Zheng State, c. 575 BC, whose discovery in 1923 formed the nucleus of the Henan Provincial Museum and contributed to the birth of modern Chinese archaeology. The original bronze vessels are displayed at the Henan Provincial Museum in Zhengzhou or the National Museum or Palace Museum in Beijing. The largest chariot burial here is part of the Zheng King's tomb, with several other tombs and three other chariot burials housed in the two main buildings. A new museum of tomb artifacts was recently added. The fourth chariot burial and several other tombs are in an annex to the main building, but as of October 6, 2015, are not yet open to the public. At least 11 other chariot burials and dozens of tombs lie nearby, though are not yet excavated. This is the best ancient historical site in Xinzheng and one of the best in Henan Province. It currently costs 30 RMB. See more..

-Site dating from about 2,600 BCE
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Ancient Ruins
This is an embryonic tourist attraction and I was told that planes are in place for a future interpretation centre which will be of a real benefit to the site. Currently the non-Chinese speaking visitor will have difficulty in assessing the site as there are simply some holes in the ground and a room with a very basic display of pottery fragments. I was fortunate in having two academics and the site is being excavated by Peking University. Contrary to my initial impression I became quite interested and realised the impirtance of the site to the Chinese as it is tangible evidence for the claim that it has a civilisation of 5,000 years. Pipework is visible (when drawn to one's attention) that show the use of water distribution to the houses. The 'cityy' wall is 13 metres across - but just looks like a grassy mound to the uninformed. It is thought that perhaps a 1,000 people residend in the area and it survived as a settlement for perhaps a 1,000 years, but no-one knows why it went into decline. I suspect other, more powerful dynasties emerged and wished to build their own bigger cities. My star rating was based on being privy to a guide, but I rather guess most people would not have that privilege and the site is still being excavated and as a place to visit rather rudimentary. But it is still worth marvelling at the pottery found and to admise the quality of things so old. See more..

- 5.0 Erlitou Ruins (1 review)
-Brand new (October 2019) museum nearby the Erlitou Ruins
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Ancient Ruins
The latest in a long string of magnificent new museums that have been opening in China. This one focuses on ancient bronze culture and while the Erlitou Ruins are from the Xia Dynasty, the museum includes ancient bronzes from the Shang, Zhou, Qin and Han Dynasties as well. The actual ruins are a long (20-30 minute) walk from the museum itself, but there are golf carts on offer. View the ruins, which were less interesting than we had hoped as most of the excavation sites have been covered up again and the area has turned into a 'park of sorts' for nearby residents whom, we learned, may be 'relocated' shortly. The museum is very well laid out, with excellent helpful signage (including in English), photographs and modern displays. This is going to be one of the region's top tourist attractions. A smaller side building houses a Welcome Centre with coffee shop, classrooms, and bookshop and a video of the history of the site. Skip it if you've little time and head for the larger building in the distance, which is the museum. See more..

Ancient Ruins • Cemeteries
See more..

-Laozi's Lectures
Wednesday: 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM Ancient Ruins
A nice Daoist temple complex in Luyi, Laozi's reputed home town (according to the Shinji, and subsequent Daoist tradition). The far end of the complex holds the "Venerable Sovereign Platform," where Laozi is said to have preached and where he achieved deification. I spent a peaceful and leisurely morning here, enjoying this refurbished cultural monument to the 2500 year old, legendary sage. In addition to the buildings, the site houses a museum, garden, a statue depicting Confucius's consult with Laozi, and a stele inscribed with the Dao de jing dated to 730 CE. Well worth a visit if you're traveling in Henan province. See more..

-Tomb of Ouyang Xiu
Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ancient Ruins • Cemeteries
Ouyang Xiu was a great scholar/official during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1126). Eight Imperial tombs from this dynasty are in and around Gongyi, while this tomb is near Xinzheng in Henan Province. I've lived in Xinzheng for over 10 years, and had a hard time finding the place. It is in the neighborhood of Peiligang Village, the type site for the Neolithic Peiligang Culture. This is strictly for the serious historical enthusiast, as there is little to see besides a gate, several buildings where Ouyang Xiu is honored, a garden area, two burial mounds, and some stone tablets for family member burials. I did not see anyone on duty, but there was no one to stop me from going inside and looking around. It was all pleasant solitude inside. Local farmers were using the parking lot outside to dry grain. I suspect I was the first foreigner they had seen there. The tomb is in the country about a half hour from Xinzheng, but perhaps less if you don't get lost. See more..

Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Ancient Ruins
See more..
