4.5Mt. Song(90 reviews) - Beautiful scenery, well worth a visit Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Mountains
Went to Mount Song and I must say it was amazing. I live in Zhengzhou so I took the 7am bus from the Long distance bus station by the railway station. It costs 28 RMB. The bus literally stops at Shaolin Temple so no need to worry. Missed the first Martial Arts show for 9:30am so I had to walk for about 15 mins to Shaolin Temple to look around and walked back to the Martial Arts Hall for the 10:30am show. Entering Shaolin and watching the show costs 100RMB. Nothing really fancy in the show, was expecting brick breaking and all. Then, started the hike to the mountain. There are two ways to hike and I started mine from Shaolin Temple to Shanghuazhai because there’s no bus at Shanghuazhai ending if you do the hike in reverse, which makes your going home harder and you have to struggle for an illegal taxi. There are two signs for the cable car, use the one on the right (it’s pretty new). Specify if you want a single ride or return ride but I opted for a return ride and I was glad I did cos my legs couldn’t take it anymore. Return trip is 100RMB, single is 80RMB. The cable car takes up to the top of the mountain and you walk the rest of the way. I did mine in about 1.5-2 hours. Got to the suspension bridge and walked back down to get the cable car. Take water up there, cos the ones being sold along the hike is expensive. DONOT wear slippers, you’ll hurt yourself. Don’t drink too much water along the hike (there are no restrooms). If you love photography, bring your camera. When I was done, I walked back out through Shaolin Temple to the bus station and caught a bus going back to Zhengzhou (28 RMB). Got back to Zhengzhou by 6:30pm.See more..
There's a huge gilded (bronze?) statue of Lord Bao Gong in this memorial temple complex. I was very glad we were able to visit this site to gain a better understanding of the development of law during the Northern Song dynasty, and to see the esteem which morally incorruptible judges and officials were given in ancient China. There are a number of gates defining the interior space. The memorial hall with its paintings and statues has been rebuilt. Interestingly, most of the people visiting were old. Our guide said they were there probably because they wanted Lord Bao, known as a champion of the people, to be "on their side" for an upcoming legal issue. It is an impressive temple, and well-worth a visit.See more..

We walked up Yao mountain (it's all paved) and caught the cable car down to the bottom. The views are spectacular when you get to the top. There are waterfalls, which I'm told and certain times of year are spectacular, though they looked pretty good to us. Also there are lots of places to stop on the way up, for a picnic or rest. Very civilised!See more..
4.5Sanhuang Village Scenic Resort(22 reviews) - Start or end point to hike Mount Song Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Mountains • Geologic Formations
This is not exactly a scenic resort, but likely your start or end point if you wish to hike Mount Song. Please see my review on Mount Song for my hiking experience. From the base of mountain, it is a steep climb, hundreds of steps before one reaches the monastery. Unfortunately, visitors are not allowed inside the compound. Hence I could only take photos of the external buildings and surrounding. The monastery compound was quiet and quaint, against the mountain backdrop.See more..
4.0Chaya Mountain(8 reviews) - lovely place Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Mountains

See more..

4.5Wuzhi Mountain(3 reviews) - Worth the drive but leave plenty of time Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Mountains
We set off a little late to get to this place as it was over a 3 hour drive. The place is beautiful and is not busy which makes for a real relaxing time. Do buy one of the hats from the ladies as you arrive because it gets VERY hot up the top. They are very cheap and worth every RMB. The views are very impressive and the air was clean and a pleasure to breath after a trip to Beijing. Leave plenty of time to do this trip as we left it a little late to get there. The Glass walkway was great.See more..
5.0Jiulong Waterfalls(1 review) - A wonderful place to be for a hot summer Spent More than 3 hours Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks • Forests • Waterfalls The nine dragons waterfalls (local people call it Jiulongpu) is a cool place for a hot summer. The magnificent landscape is worth of a visiting. The park is free to visitors. On the way to the mountain top, you can enjoy local food and drinks. The local community also provide accommodations for visitors if you would like to stay there longer. It's better go there with friends or with local travell agency with cars or coaches since it is quite remote area, there is no public transport at this moment.See more..
5.0Luya Waterfall Scenic Area(1 review) - Beautiful Waterfalls Spent More than 3 hours State Parks • Mountains • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Waterfalls
The Luya Waterfalls was very close to our hotel. You can buy entrance tickets at the main gate then you can drive on in (it's another 2 km) to the scenic area. At that place there are small shops for water, ice cream, fish nets etc. Then there's one main trail to hike up. It's a mix of stairs and rock formation. It's not a difficult hike, just a lot of steps. It is quite pretty. We didn't have time to go all the way up unfortunately, but I heard there were more scenic areas up top.See more..
