I was with a group of people who were visiting Zhengzhou for the first time and this is a logical place to take them. While Zhengzhou is a large city, Erqi Tower and the surrounding streets/shops are like the central hub of the city. The tower itself is nothing really special but is a nice landmark for the city. We went on a Wednesday night and it was filled with people. It did remind me of Times Square in New York. Around the Tower are a dizzying array of shops and bustling activity. There were also loud, continuous announcements from shops and bright lights that seemed to be competing with each other for who is the loudest or the brightest. This is really a place of sensory overload. Any street you go down though, you can find a shop or restaurant for just about any sort of taste or budget. A fun place to go but maybe only for a couple of hours. Others may be able to take the sensory overload for longer than I did! See more..

We pointed to this site on our map and showed it to our driver thinking it was the White Horse Temple. When we arrived, we were blown away how stunning this facility is. It was the White Horse which is also wonderful, but this temple was one of the most beautiful we visited during our trip to China. If I have my story straight, I believe it is the temple where Confuscious, Taoist, and Buddhist were all represented. I sacred place and very beautiful. If visiting Luoyang, I would say this and the Grottoes were my favorite sites. See more..

What's left of the Shang-period walls surrounding the ancient city of Zhengzhou are interesting to walk along, primarily because you are walking on such old history. A section of the wall is fenced off so you can easily visualize what it might have looked like when it was 30 meters tall. It was interesting to look down on old building courtyards to see people practicing Tai Chia, students playing basketball, gaze at old temples, and imagine... I would not make a special trip to Zhengzhou just to see the walls, but if coupled with a visit to other sights, like the Henan Museum, it's worth a short stop. Access to the walls is a steep dirt path, not something to do if i has rained recently. See more..

Well preserved enormous Kang family estate from Ming-Qing dynasty. Big estate owned by local family since the Ming dynasty with members having served as government officials and run large business. Despite the size of the estate is huge, the buildings featured oddly small quads, corridors and rooms. The decorations are actually very humble and ordinary in comparison to more upscaled estates of the same social status in Suzhou and Wuxi. See more..

Very impressive statues of the emperor and some of the 800 year old trees in the courtyard . I was lucky to have a Chinese friend with me to translate some of the Chinese for me . I liked the tree that represents all the Chinese surnames and the meaning of the use of the colour yellow at the museum . Some beautiful artifacts in the museum . If you are visiting the Shaolin Temple, you should include a visit to the Songyang Academy, also located in Dengfeng city. Perhaps not as popular and therefore not crowded, this was a tranquil spot to chill out. The buildings are well maintained and there are two astoundingly wonderful 4,500 year old trees. Tales of erudite scholars expounding Confucius philosophy infused the air as we absorbed the placid charm of this academy. I thorough enjoyed the visit of this little gem. See more..

Youli Castle is important for two aspects: for being the place that the first Zhou dynasty king Ji Chang (Zhou Wen-Wang) was imprisoned and humiliated by the last Shang king Di Xin, making it effectively the place where the first historical dynastic takeover of China was instigated, and for being the birthplace of trigram divination, which is a significant part of Daoist mysticism. Apart from the grand centerpiece statue of Wen-Wang standing over a ba gua, there are many statues of the heroes of the great war in which the Zhou dynasty defeated and replaced the Shang dynasty, and a tomb mound where Wen-Wang's murdered son Bo YiKao was supposedly enshrined. The grounds themselves are a pleasant environment to stroll around. Lots of bagua divination shops around the area too. Probably best to get there by taxi, and wait at the main road for a north-bound bus on the way out. See more..

刚看财神一类的书知道比干是文财神，这还不赶快拜一拜，哈哈

This is the spot where the Yangshao Culture was first identified and excavated in 1921 by Swedish Geologist Johan Andersson. This was a key development in modern Chinese archaeology. They built a modern museum on site and enclosed the area which has not been excavated. It's a short distance away, but the museum provides an electric car to shuttle people there. Next to the site are some of the few remaining cave homes of Henan Province, with people actually living there. You can still see pottery shards in situ. Yangshao pottery is distinctive, but the best examples were taken by the National Museum in Beijing and the Henan Provincial Museum in Zhengzhou. The Yangshao Museum got what was leftover, and they are all heavily restored. The truly nice pieces on display are reproductions. On the plus side, this is a historically significant place where you can still visit the actual excavation site. On the minus side, it's a devil to try to find. It's somewhere about midway between Luoyang and Sanmenxia, but quite off the beaten path, so you need a local driver who knows the area. A great place for the serious historian or explorer, and the museum is actually quite nice and modern with a friendly and helpful staff. And no crowds! See more..

Huge temple complex in Luyi County, and the place of Laozi's (allged) birth (according to the Shinji, and subsequent tradition). Aside from scholarly questions on Laozi's historicity, this is an impressive monument to an icon of Chinese culture. The site contains a building asserted to be Laozi's family home, and veritable plethora of other Daoist structures, gardens, and museums celebrating Laozi, the Dao de jing, and the regions very ancient history. Luyi is a bit out of the way (the closest train station is in Zhoukou, I bused in from Luoyang), but worth a stop if you're traveling in Henan province. 地図ソフトを頼りに辿り着いたのは官渡古寺。康熙帝が来た(ここに寄ったかどうか不明)時に碑を建てていったがそれもなくなり、その後も碑が建てられたが、それもなくなり、今は何も無いとのこと。
民間のお寺だそうで、文革後の補修が進んでいるとの事。尼寺なのか？女性ばかりが働いており、比丘さんもいた。

2009年に河南省当局から曹操高陵として発表された西高穴2号墓は、安陽市内から車で40分、現在はツアーでの見学を受け付けています。すでに「曹操高陵展示所／Exhibition Hall of Cao Cao's tomb」として整備され、2017年をめどにツアーだけでなく一般公開を目指しているとのこと。
出土文物は北京、安陽等の博物館に蔵置されているとのことであり、現地を見学した際に副葬品を確認することは出来ませんでしたが、偉人の墳墓発掘現場を直に拝見する機会はそう多くなく、貴重な経験でした。 See more..
