Dec is a good time to do this. Nice and cool, no other tourists. It's quite a long steep climb to the top. Took us 4-5 hours round trip. 7 year old managed it fine, but might be tough for younger kids. Last section involves pulling yourself up with chains- not suitable for kids. Overall a great experience walking through the forest. Amazing trees. 50rmb entrance (I think) well worth it. Only downer was the crappy piped music that comes at you from fake rocks all the way to the top! See more..

It's a lovely walk to get to the waterfall, with a path you can easily follow. I was glad to see that the place had not been over-commercialized like some other nature attractions in China are. I would take a hat or umbrella if it's a very sunny day as it can get quite hot (a water bottle too). On your way back you can buy yourself a fresh coconut or sugarcane to munch on. It was a nice quiet walk when we went, with not that many people besides us (can't imagine what it must be like if it's very busy as some of the rocks can be a bit slippery so take care). See more..

This is a great place to visit and learn about the Sanya aboriginal tribes. A dance shows is included in the door ticket and you can add extra entrance fee for visit to the children's zoo and mini water park. Our family only did the dance show and then walked around the park to see street performance. Strongly recommended the dance show to anyone. See more..

We saw little wildlife during our one-night stay as it coincided with a cold spell that brought daytime termperatures in Haikou below 10°C. Bawangling Yajia Vacation Centre has about 15 blocks of 1- and 2- storey lodges for visitors and is located within the Bawangling Nature Reserve. Imagine a pristine version of Malaysia's Fraser's Hill and you get the idea (fresh air, small cataracts and waterfalls, cool-to-chilly mountain breezes, colourful avifauna). Hot, dry daytime contrasts with cool evenings. There are well-maintained boardwalks and the fairly steep walk up to the waterfall is reminiscent of Langkawi's Talaga Tujuh ("7 Wells") Waterfall route. An open balcony runs along the length of our lodge building and doubles as a common corridor to the rooms. All room windows have insect screens. Ensuite bathroom are wet rooms with floors of wooden slats, featuring water heater, washbasin, shower and modern sit-down flush toilet. Free wired internet access is provided via a desktop PC. There is a CRT TV, electric kettle, free teabags. Meals are available at the Vacation Centre's restaurant which is quite good (try a local dish: Boiled 5-legged wild boar, so named because the latter's long snout resembles a fifth leg when it's running). Cost of entry is 40RMB. The wetland experience consists of a boardwalk through the wetland area. The park is said to be about 1.45 square km in size. There is a flamingo enclosure in the centre of the walkway. Also there are boats that can take you for a ride in the wetland (not operating when we arrived). Near the front entrance is a well presented Wetland Experience Museum (all in Chinese). Did not see any wildlife except some crabs. Ironically, despite the apparent important of the wetland it has been crowded out by massive development. Buildings (such as Hilton Doubletree) are seen in every direction when in the wetland. This is not a place to visit if you are looking for a experience in nature. Well presented but seems a bit tokenistic. We spent just over 30mins here. If visiting in the summer go in the late afternoon (closed 5.30pm). See more..
