Wat Chamthewi Temple (Wat Ku Kut) image
This temple witness 2 significant people in 2 different eras. After retired from the throne, queen Chamadevi spent her sunset years on practicing dharma at this temple. Her cremation was also held at this temple and her bone ash is still inside the beautiful laterite stupa. Around 1200 years since then, Kruba Sri Wichai (Lanna saint, community developer) renovated the abandoned temple and this was his last renovation. His body was also cremated at this temple and his bone ash is still in the temple as well. The queen's stupa is in the shape of a 5 levels step pyramid. Each of the four sides in each level contains 3 Buddha statues fitted into the channels which makes a total of 3*4*5=60 statues. Moreover, there is a museum that exhibits life and past work of Kruba Sri Wichai in the wooden house nearby. Worth visiting. See more..

Wat Chamatewi aka Wat Kukut is a very old temple. The main chedi Suwan Chang Kot dates back to 1150 and seems to be the only remaining example of the architecture of the Hariphunchai kingdom. At the back of the temple compound, there is a small museum dedicated to the monk Kruba Srivichai who oversaw the restoration of the temple in 1935-36. See more..

Wat Phra Bat Huay Tom is regarded as the biggest temple in Li district. It is also the most important temple in Phra Bat Huay Tom for Karen villagers (Pga K’ nyau). This temple is one of those places I visited in this village of “Ban Huai Tom”. My homestay with my Karen Family was amazing and superb! Visited many places within and outside the village as well, learned so many good things about the history of Karen Tribe and their culture, I highly recommend this Village and my tour guide, I had a wonderful time with these nice and wonderful people. The best time to visit is during December- January as the weather is good! This is one of the best trips I had so far. Will be back again soonest:-)! See more..

In front of the temple, standing a big statue of "Kru Ba Apichai Khawpee", noble monk who was a community developer. His body is also preserved in the glass coffin inside the temple. The second one is on the top of the hill. Visitor can either climbs the stairs or drives (carefully) along the narrow unpaved path. At the entrance of the upper zone, there are 2 giant statues with high tech weapons as guardians of the temple. Also, there is a magnificent Myanmar style reclining Buddha inside this zone. 'Just when you think you've seen enough temples, you come across an absolutely exquisitely designed temple sanctuary that although situated in a remote village, appears to be something out of the future! If it were to have an English name, it might be called The Temple of Self-Reflection. Outstanding! See more..

this monument looms over the south end of Lamphun. It is on the top of a hill close to the Chaing Mai- Lampaeng Highway. you may walk up the hill, take a cable car, or drive to the top. Parking is limited at the top but we parked at the base of the statue. We walked into the base then up a spiral staircase to the viewpoint under the monk statue. You get a great view of Lamphun. It is a temple site . The complex is attractive and steeped in Buddhist tradition. Its a great day out and you might combine it with other local attractions. See more..

This was a beautiful place to visit. Very new, clean and peaceful. Almost no visitors. Situated on a bluff over-looking the Ping River, we had a beautiful view of the surrounding area. There is construction going on as they develop the area but it was worth a visit, being just an hour away from Chiang Mai. See more..

  21. 4.0 Phra Nang Chamthewi Statue (52 reviews)
    - Significant landmark of Lamphun.
    Monuments & Statues
    Phra Nang Chamthewi Statue image
Chamadevi was the founder and the first ruler of the ancient Hariphunchai (Nowadays Lamphun), the first kingdom ever established in this region. During her reign, the warrior queen brought prosperity, peace and Buddhism into the kingdom. The statue represents her as a gorgeous lady with curvy well-proportioned body. Her right hand is outstretched with open palm, while her left hand holds the sword. Her statue was the first stop in our trip to Lamphun. We have to pay respect to the great queen before entering her town. See more..
  22. 4.0 Hariphunchai National Museum (16 reviews)
    - Great little museum
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Hariphunchai National Museum image
This is my kind of thing, rather than going to temples. The entry charge is normally 100baht pp, but we got in for free because there was a problem with the interior lighting. We were the only visitors there at the time. It's home to some beautiful artefacts, and gives information in both Thai and English. They showed a short information film about Hariphunchai, with English subtitles, but it went so fast that I couldn't keep up. Although it was a short visit it was very informative, and I'm glad I went. Well worth a visit. See more..
  23. 4.0 Flea Market Lamphun (14 reviews)
    - Worse than a car boot sale
    Flea & Street Markets
    Flea Market Lamphun image
Our second home is in Lamphun but I have to be honest and advise others that the flea market at Lamphun is not worth visiting. It's worse than a car boot sale. In fact I would normally buy something at a car boot but the flea market had nothing that I could see a Westerner buying. You would be much better off going to the Chiangmai night market. See more..

  26. 4.0 Wat Mahawan Woramahawihan (6 reviews)
    - The Shrine of Phra Sila Dam
Spent < 1 hour Religious Sites
    Wat Mahawan Woramahawihan image
This small city wat is said to date back to the Haripunchai in the 7th century, though most of what you see today is obviously of recent construction. The grounds contain a sal tree, a nice wooden manuscript library and a chedi, which may contain the vestiges of an older Mon chedi. However, the main drawcard here is an 11th century black stone statue from the Haripunchai kingdom. It goes by various names but it is perhaps best known as Phra Sila Dam, the Black Stone Buddha. It is now enshrined in the vihaan in front of a huge seated Buddha. The statue is now completely covered in gold leaf, so do not expect to see a black stone statue. It is worth coming here to see this antiquity. See more..
  27. 4.0 Gassan Panorama Golf Club (4 reviews)
    - Good budget Golf course
Monday: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM Golf Courses
    Gassan Panorama Golf Club image
I came here playing 18 holes with my dad. The course is straightforward and the layout are always the same. Hot straight, left and right are bunkers and waters. It's more for leisure game only. Rough are not so penalising but you must hit straight. Being lots of balls too. If you tend to hit balls to the right, it's quite easy to lose all the balls. The green is not really fast. About 9.1 on stipmeter. Oh it's also very windy. So even if u hit straight, there always a high chance that your ball end up at other places. The fairway is also well kept. Ball is always floating on top of the grass. Oh ya another tip is go to golfsaver to book. It's cheaper than walk in. See more..

  30. 4.0 Tha Luang Pha Wiang (1 review)
    - hidden attraction
Spent 1-2 hours Caverns & Caves
    Tha Luang Pha Wiang image
Many caves lie in northern Thailand and Tham Luang Pha Wiang, tucked away in the hills south of Ban Hong in Lamphun province, is typical. It has several chambers with interesting stalactites hanging from the ceilings and stalagmites jutting up from the ground. The most attractive is the first one by the entrance, dominated by a huge stalagmite that resembles a giant tooth and graced by a few small religious shrines. The next chamber contains several Buddha statues, for Thai culture considers caves to be holy and honor them with religious imagery. It takes about an hour by motorbike from Lamphun to the turnoff to the cave, about 15 km south of Ban Hong. The route is mostly flat until a few km north of the cave, when mountains begin dominating the landscape. A few chedis stand high up on the ridges, with side roads marking the way up, which is worth the views if time and weather permit. From the turn to the cave the road is fairly easy. A big seated Buddha is next to the parking lot and it’s just ten minutes partway up the hill to the cave entrance, marked by two big naga statues. See more..
