Phra Nang Chamthewi Statue, Lamphun Province, Thailand

4.0 (52 reviews) Spent Ranking #5 in Lamphun Monuments & Statues

Significant landmark of Lamphun.

Chamadevi was the founder and the first ruler of the ancient Hariphunchai (Nowadays Lamphun), the first kingdom ever established in this region. During her reign, the warrior queen brought prosperity, peace and Buddhism into the kingdom. The statue represents her as a gorgeous lady with curvy well-proportioned body. Her right hand is outstretched with open palm, while her left hand holds the sword. Her statue was the first stop in our trip to Lamphun. We have to pay respect to the great queen before entering her town.

Pay Respect to the first Queen
It's a place to visit if you are in Lamphun. Here is the first queen who was the great ruler of Hariphunchai Kingdom. The location is in the downtown of Lamphun, easy to find. I was looking forward to visiting Lamphun and visiting her past works. All she did with her heart, and devoted for her people and her area with her brave, confidence and intelligent. She was not only a very beautiful queen, but she devoted her life at the end for Buddhism, and you could find many places: temples, chedis she built in Lamphun and Chiang Mai. Have a good luck....

Lucky time to visit in October, quaint town, very historical!
The monument is dedicated to a ruler of Lamphun, when it was Burma. Invaders came, were held off, and later returned and only to burn everything to the ground but the main stupa. The city was then deserted for over 200 years. It’s a wonderful statue and the grounds are lovely also. I was told the month of October is their lantern festival (the month to proceed the water and lantern festival which originated and is held in Chiang Mai during November. The lanterns are just hung at this location, the temple, and overhead street entries into the inner town/city (ancient walls with older moat system are still present in some areas like in Chiang Mai. Beautiful spectacle that is worth the 45 minute drive from Chiang Mai, with several wonderful temples along the way.
