    Universidad Pontificia image
Stunning building from the outside which can be seen from miles around. The only way to get in is to go on a tour (check times before) and again the only tour available was in Spanish - but we took it just to get in. Quite impressive inside and that's just the tiny bit you see. Seemed to us that they were missing a trick here by not offering more guided tours and some in English! See more..

The material used was stone. The main façade has a tall tower. The interior has beautiful stained glass windows and the first furniture designed by Gaudi. Casa del Duque de Almodovar del Rio image
I would love to have seen the inside. The outside gives the impression that someone would be using it as a haunted house. They are restoring it, as I understand. I had the bad luck to visit after it had been closed for the day. See more..

The exterior is decorated with magnificent Gothic balconies with intricate traceries over Modernisme columns. The interior can only be seen on 30-minute guided tours (in Spanish), you’ll see the grand central hall with sweeping carved-stone staircases, a reception/billiard room, beautiful stained-glass windows and vibrant murals detailing a egotistical journey through the marquis’ life. In a town already blessed with the El Capricho de Gaudi, this gate is a nice stop for those who can't get enough of the great architect. This cursive gate has all the hallmarks of a Gaudi design and is similar to elements of Colònia Güell, Sagrada Familia and Park Güell. This is a landmark building built in the 19th century by Antonio López, the Marques de Comillas, for his mother. Seems to be built is a psychedelic mix of Modernist and Neo-Gothic, the latter especially evident in the ogee arches. I’d like to live in it … if I had the money. See more..

El Corro de Campíos The Camp or place of Campios is in the center of the historical Comillas, it is a wide pedestrian plaza filled with allot of cafes and terraces who are giving the visitors a great choice of animation. El Corro Campíos is the place of leisure in the town, where once they played bowling and danced on Sundays, all of this in the surrounding area of the church of San Cristóbal. From here it is only a few passes away from the homonymous neighborhood, who is one of the most typical of Comillas, in this location you easily will find good examples of the traditional and mountain architecture of the town.

  27. 3.0 Plaza Corro San Pedro (1 review)
    - Public Square
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Plaza Corro San Pedro image
This plaza is actually what Cantabrians would call a corro, which is a fenced-in place surrounded by leafy trees. This plaza certainly feels fenced in. It’s a fairly small square, bounded on all four sides by houses. There are gaps in the plaza, just large enough for cars to pass. It’s certainly not a traditional Spanish plaza with cafes and restaurants, but there is some wonderful Cantabrians architecture and the most prominent building in the square is called Casa del Corro. A nice stop in the historic centre of Comillas. See more..
  28. 3.0 Casa Del Corro (1 review)
    - An Interesting Landmark In Comillas
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Casa Del Corro image
The Casa del Corro is a house in Plaza Corro San Pedro and dates from the 18th century. Today it is owned by the Sánchez de Cueto family. The house is the oldest in Plaza Corro San Pedro and looks like it's the most prominent too. It's a large stone house with a cantilevered balcony and a two-story gabled roof. Its façade presents regular, symmetrical openings, with the door centred. On the front of the building, there is a large heraldic shield in high relief, with a helmet and the characteristic plumage falling on lambrequins, and bracketed by two lions. An interesting landmark in the town. See more..
