Vlad the Impaler stated his claim to Bucharest in 1459. His citadel on the Dambovita was the first of flotillas of palaces, many of which still stand. Four subway lines and a modern bus network transport visitors and commuters. Nicknamed "Little Paris", Bucharest's elegant early 20th-century architecture shows French influences. Don't miss the Village Museum, Romanian Athenaeum and the Peasant Museum. You can't miss the Palace of Parliament, the second-largest building in the world (after the Pentagon).

    Muzeul Micul Paris image
I would never expect to encounter a museum like this in Bucharest and specifically in the Heart of the Old Town. Entering the museum, you travel back in time, where music, art and fashion thrived! I would highly recommend you visit, as the tour guide (I wish I could remember his name so I can suggest him to you) is higly knowledgable regarding the history of the city and its most prosperous time from which the exhibitions came from. Although the museum is actually small, it is a gem. See more..

  4. 4.5 Herăstrau Park (3.385 reviews)
    - Some nature in a big city
    Parks
    Herăstrau Park image
The park is relatively big and has different opportunities, for very different kinds of people. If you like peace and you like to take a few steps, avoid the restaurants area and some zones nearby the lake, where a lot of bikers can disturb you. Also, in the same vein, it is better to visit it especially when the weather is NOT perfect, because of crowds. If you look carefully, you can see turtles, wild ducks, even snakes. If you like crowds, probably you should do exactly the opposite... A trip with the boat can be interesting. @Taverna Racilor is a very original experience, due to the menu. See more..

We visited here as part of an organised walking tour. If you’re looking at the front of the building from the park, then there’s an entrance on the right hand side, just down the side street. For 10 lei you can go in when there isn’t a performance on to look at the grand staircases and up into the auditorium itself. The decoration is well worth the entry cost, particularly if you can’t see a show but still want to check the building out. See more..

    Ceaușescu Mansion image
Fitting of a head of state of the former Soviet bloc, the palace stands out both in magnitude and in its luxurious interior garnished with beautiful design elements (furniture, carpets, mirrors, porcelain) manufactured in famous shops from the country and from abroad. We would like our visitors to see how Ceaușescu lived, not only as an internationally renowned head of state, but as a man in his own private life - the hobbies that he had, what his routine around the privacy of his home was, how he studied or what art collections he had in his house. 11. 4.5 Romanian Kitsch Museum (491 reviews)
    - beautful roma
Temporarily closed - Closed until further notice Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • Art Museums
    Romanian Kitsch Museum image
The best way to understand the Romanian (sub)culture and traditions. Romanian KITSCH is authentic as we are creative, ridiculous and proud in the same time. Seven KITSCH areas presented (basically seven stories) – Kitsch from the Communism period, Dracula Kitsch, Gypsy Kitsch & more. Search for the flag with Ceausescu and when you are standing next to it, look for the rainbow themed museum doors, which are somewhat hidden fom view behind a couple of white umbrellas that belong to the restaurant next door. Very funny experience but real and educational in the same time. It's an interactive experience. You can take pictures inside and you can interact with the exponats.(touch them) Average visiting time: 33 minutes. Between 16th of July and 30 September 2021, the museum is located in the city center of Cluj Napoca - TIFF House, so it’s easy to get inside while you exploring the rest of the city. See more..

    - Gorgeous building
    Architectural Buildings
    Palatul CEC image
Located on Victoriei street, which is famous for some of Bucharest most intricate buildings. The CEC palace I was told was once a bank by locals. - Beautiful park

    Carol Park image
This is the third time that I have visited Carol Park. It's a beautiful park and you can get plenty of exercise walking around. During this visit it was still considered winter and most of the trees bare. During the spring and summer the park is absolutely gorgeous with many activities. The monument is absolutely stunning. There are always guards there to protect the tomb. See the attached photos. Carol Park is one of many parks in Bucharest and one of my favorites. Check it out. See more..

    - Not to Be Missed History in Action
    Speciality Museums
    Cotroceni Palace (Palatul Cotroceni) image
The Cotroceni Museum is excellent. Visitors must make appointments in advance and must have their passports in order to check in for the tour. The first time we went, we didn't have our passports but the clerk and security guard were exceedingly profession and nice. They were able to schedule us for the next day. Irina, our guide, spoke excellent, clear English loud enough for all 12 members of our group to hear. The historical information added a great deal to our understanding of Romania along with original furnishings and several temporary displays that Irina expertly explained. Because we had originally signed up for the tour of both the palace and the monastery, Irina made special arrangements for us to see the monastery - just the two of us. So the staff was very accommodating even though we had been in error. The museum had an excellent shop - we have been disappointed because none of the other museums we visited had authentic, interesting artifacts!! See more..
  17. 4.5 Opera Națională București (214 reviews)
    - Impressive show of culture!
    Operas
    Opera Națională București image
Unfortunately I did not get to see a production here but did get to view the inside. The inside is pretty much what you expect, theater style, red velvet and opera boxes lining the upper level. This is always stately, striking and moving. This is however just one of the four National Romanian Opera Houses. There is a huge green space in front, close to the road is a statue of George Enescu, conductor of the first production. Directly across from the steps is a statue of George Stephanescu the founder of the first Romanian Opera Company. See more..
