Pekan is a relaxed Royal town, situated along the Pahang river. The beautiful Moorish style mosque was built in 1929 and has just been renovated to become a museum with historical islamic artefacts (some over a 1000 years old) and among others also an nice collection of musical instruments. You are welcome to just relax in this well airconditioned area, read some of the books or have a talk with other guests. There is no entry fee and you will find the Museum Sultan Abdullah just next door. You will also be able to find simple restaurants within walking distance. See more..

Speciality Museums
Growing up in Pahang I have never known this state to have a museum that's with while visiting until this little gem had an upgrade and reopened its doors. The building has been beautifully restored and hopefully it will be well maintained. There are several rooms housing photos and artifacts from the state royal family. Other rooms cover a range of other subjects including traditional games, chins/porcelain, orang asli(native people), Islamic art, etc. The displays are all in good condition and there are a few interactive booths. I particularly enjoyed the one where you can play the different sounds of traditional musical instruments. There is a cafe called Kafe Belibis which serves traditional local Pahang dishes like ikan sungai gulai tempoyak, patin bakar pais and daging ketuk. Unfortunately we got there late and did not have the opportunity to sample any of these. The museum is closed on Mondays and on Hari Rayas. See more..
