  1. 5.0 Penan Peace Park Long Kerong (22 reviews)
    - Awesome cultural and jungle experience
Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
Penan Peace Park Long Kerong image
Picnic with the Penan organized a shirt trip for me several years back and it is still one of my all time favorite travel experiences. Getting there takes some effort but that is part of the fun... small plane, 4WD, longboat upriver. The guides and family I stayed with made this an unforgettable experience with their stories and their bushcraft skills are amazing. I went into the forest for four days looking at distant mountain ranges, seeing some of the remnant big trees that have not been cut down in other parts of Sarawak and generally living off the land. This is a great opportunity to experience another way of life in a small way while also supporting local people in the way they want to craft their lives. See more..

Though there's 3 ways of reaching Bario, flying (on board a 19 seater Twin-otter plane) is the fastest way of reaching Bario. Bario Asal Longhouse is the oldest, most traditional Kelabit longhouse standing. This longhouse was built on the runway of Bario's 2nd airport in the 1950/60's to replace the old longhouse. Over the years, The longhouse have move forward with time. We now see modern electrical appliances, modern kitchen etc. One may engage the locals for a tour of the longhouse (with the fee of RM30 for the 1st person and RM5 per person for subsequent participant) The weather is cool all year long due to its high altitude. On a clear night, one is able to see the milky way. Awesomely beautiful sight. Bario is powered by a mini hydro dam. Piasau Nature Reserve image
This a great reserve not too far from Miri centre. A Grab drive to the reserve is less than RM10, or one can walk to the reserve if time permits (around an hour and a half's walk from the centre). The area around the turn off to the boat club is said to be a good place to see hornbills. It took me no time to spot a couple and following them around let me see them in close proximity. It almost looked like the birds weren't scared to come close. See more..

However, this time she is on wheelchair, but we still managed to come again. Although Miri is not my hometown and many said that Miri has got nothing to do. But in my point of view and opinion, I feel that Miri is really a peaceful, quiet and relaxing place. I will definitely be planning again soon with my family. See more..

    Crocodile Farm image
Iam a crocodile lover so went to this place late afternoon and ig took approximately 30mins from Miri town. Very few people during my visit and there wasn't any crocs show available. The park earn additional income by charging visitor's buying nuts, bananas for monkey, taking pics with baby crocs, albino snake and feeding crocs. There is a Arapaima Gigas being reared in the lake but absolute invisible due to large pond and dark view. The state government could improve on upgrading the park by getting someone expertise in the field. See more..

    Loagan Bunut National Park image
We booked a trip to Loagan Bunut with Mutiara Homestay Resort. A day before the trip, we were informed the water level was low (2 ft) & were given a choice to proceed or cancel the trip. We proceed with low expectation, well no lake tour. The journey fr Miri took 2 hrs. The road conditions is good except for early part due to a hiway construction. We were greeted by our host, Mr Roland, who took us to his homestay via a boat. Despite low water level, the boat ride from PHQ to the resort was smooth with an awesome views. The homestay is beautiful, unique & very clean. The views of sunrise & sunset from the homestay were beyond words. As there’s no lake tour, we spent our time taking pics, chatting with our friendly hosts (Mr Roland & Mdm Doreen), cooking our dinner & breakfast. We made a good decision to visit the lake when the water is low as it offers a different scenic view. Overall the trip was above our expectations. Will go again when the water level is high. Colonial cemetery image
Tricky to find. The entrance is between SMK St Columba (school) & Gymkhana Club Miri. GPS N04 23.100 E113 59.104 A small neglected Colonial era Christian cemetery. It contains a mixed bag of European ex-pats, Chinese & orang Asli graves & marker stones. what struck me was the disproportionate amount of young deaths. See more..
