I stayed at the BIke & Tours B&B in Lahad Datu for two nights (great!) and additionally did a half-day tour (from 13.00 to 23.00) in the primary rainforest in Bukit Piton with them. The excursion was great: I was very lucky to be the only participant (advantages of travelling during low season in January!) and got very personal service from the driver and the wildlife guide, who were very knowledgeable about the animals and also happily answered the many questions I had about palm plantations. We were very lucky in seeing three orangutans relatively close (incredible given the short duration of the trip!), in addition to plenty of other interesting animals both during the day and at nighttime. It truly felt like a tailor-made trip for me, and I got back exhausted but happy! See more..
- 5.0 Tabin Lodge and Wildlife Rainforest Tour (32 reviews)
-TOP NOTCH STUNNING NATURAL EXPERIENCE
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM 4WD, ATV & Off-Road Tours • Eco Tours • Night Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours
Probably one of the best natural tours I have done over 30 years in Malaysia. Our guide was Dr Teo and his band of merry men ! Knowledgeable and well versed into the ecology of the area. And superb at spotting wildlife and sharing experiences. It was a rainy week and the restart of visitors to East Sabah, so all elements were in to make it a very private and interesting experience ! Definitely did not disappoint ! This type of "tour package" is for the more adventurous travelers with a deep appreciation of nature and wildlife as well as interaction with less privilege human beings living on the edge of vast mangroves and the sea. The boat ride with fireflies in the trees, clear night sky and fluorescent plancton was absolutely awesome ! See more..

-Great Expierence

I did the Bukit Piton Tour, which I can totally recommend. We have seen a lot of wildlife (7 orang utans, lots of macaques and 2 slow loris at night) and the guide and spotters did a really great job. The meal served as dinner in the lodge was great. Much more than I would have expected. The lodge itself is very basic, but it's ok. And they have an absolutely cute cat in the lodge. See more..
- 5.0 Sungai Kapur (15 reviews)
-a superb area
Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Forests
Sungai Kapur – North Tabin is located within the RAMSAR site and referring it to an “off the beaten path gem” is an understatement! Sungai Kapur is by far Lahad Datu’s “2in1”! To conceptualize, it is as if the jungle of Danum Valley and the Kinabatangan River meets and placed in one area. As such visitors to this coordinate can engage at jungle trekking, river cruising and night safari. See more..
- 5.0 Taliwas in Danum Valley (1 review)
Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
Taliwas Rainforest is located about 40km from Lahad Datu. Easily noticeable yet easily missed when one is on the way to Danum Valley! The Taliwas Rainforest was recently classified as a First Class Forest Reserve and offers its visitors a chance to sight the wildlife such as macaques, monitor lizards, wild boar and during the migration season the pygmy elephants. -The Resort is a gem in the jungle
Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
The setting of lodging units is simply unexpectedly picturesque and comfortable beyond you can imagine right in the middle of the jungle. Both lodging units, along the riverbank and along the terrain of the hill, are on a beautiful setting with a balcony in each unit. The river bank units is more suitable for the seniors and the hillside lodges are good for those energetic young lads. The food catered in the restaurant is a five stars standard, it is better than many resorts in the wild and on certain islands in the state. The staffs are very friendly and the rangers are knowledgeable and helpful. On this promotion rate, it is really a value for your dollar! See more..
- 4.0 Tower of Heaven (36 reviews)
-Spectacular views from the top
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Spectacular views of rain forest hills, Darvil Bay, and the islands beyond. The road is in good condition, we had no problem driving to the top in our rental car. The Tower of Heaven is a feat of construction, and also a test of nerves! It was windy when we went, and at the top of the tower we could clearly feel the tower swaying with the wind! Amazing views from the top of the tower. There are several walking trails in the area, including a trail to the peak that starts next to the Tower. See more..
