We loved this site. Tickets are only good on the day of purchase. We had booked a guided tour but decided to also explore on our own the afternoon before. The tickets for children under age 25 were 6 euro and it was 12 euro for adults. We walked around exploring the site on our own one evening, however, when you go without a guide, you do not learn about the site nor can you find where the oracle of Delphi would have been. We had booked a tour the next day and learned an incredible amount about the site through her. The views were just stunning and you could see why this location was chosen. The polygonal walls show that this site was very, very old and you will marvel at how they were able to build with such huge stones way up in the mountains. Words cannot do this place justice. Be sure to drive down to the Tholos to see the rest of the site. It is free to go there. See more..

Monemvasia is a beautiful and dramatic site to visit, but something happened recently to the gate to the upper town, and the whole upper town including Hagia Sophia church is closed. The lower town is still open, and you can wander all over the lower slopes, but the upper town has only one entrance and it is closed. Disappointing! See more..

Although I once went to Les Baux-de-Provence, I am not a specialist in Bauxite mining but I know a lot more about it now. This visit was very well run; all the displays etc were available in many languages; very thoughtful attention paid to health & safety; knowledgeable guides; the video accounts by the locals used to work here in the 1960's etc (eg women carrying the ore out in baskets) were very provoked many thoughts. This place is unique in our country because, although it is not a ski center, you can enjoy free ride ski and snowboard. The location is in 1245m surrounded by the forrest ,and katafygio oiti is traditionally stone made ,according to the environment. The view is magnificent.the "pyramide" of giona. The 5th highest mountain of Greece which our visitors can admire sitting on the balcony of the cafe. The Monastery of Proussos was named after the Icon of Panagia Prousiotissa from Prousa in Minor Asia, according to a legend painted by Luke the Evangelist. It is 31 km north of Karpenisi. It was build in the 9th century (some say 12th century). According to a legend the monastery was founded during the period of the Byzantine Emperor Theophilos (829-842) who was an iconoclast ( against the use of icons). To protect the icon it was decided by supporters of the use of icons to move it to a safe place. The two persons responsible to find a place for the icon who came in Proussos decided to stay here and to build a monastery, and they were the first monks who changed their names to Dionysios and Timotheos. According to legends they decided the place due to miracles that happened due to the icon and because they could not move the icon to another place.Part of the monastery was destroyed 1587 by a fire. During the Greek war of independence it was a refuge place of various heroes such as Giorgos Karaiskakis, Markos Botsaris or Lambros Katsonis. A large part of the monastery was destroyed , including many books and documents, by fire set by German troops in the second world war. See more..

We needed to use google maps as all directions in Greek look for Kαταράκτης then once at Drimona go left at t junction and about 5-10 mins drive on. Water cold but clear lots of frogs and tadpoles. Really great cave (mildly creepy) and beautiful walk to it from the road (mild uphill). The hike to delphi though is LONG - 15km with a lot of brambles that are hard to walk through as paths are often tiny, no water available anywhere (luckily we found a broken hose 4km after we'd run out). The views are beautiful but I HIGHLY recommend only doing this hike if you are a decent hiker with good shoes, because the path isn't a path but a lot of rock and gravel (slippy), its also fairly step and LONG. Also there's barely any shade so you will get a lot of sun. I would recommend walking up a bit from town for the views and then coming back down and taxiing to the cave and back to the cave and doing the shorter hill walk. See more..
