I think this site is grossly underrated because few people seem to take the tour. Our guide took us through countless halls and rooms, including the city council chamber, that are not accessible without a tour, and he explained some of the hundreds of symbols represented in the art and architecture. It was an amazing experience that offered a much deeper understanding of the city's culture and history.See more..
It was great to see this tremendous dynamic sculptural creation, based on Norse legends of the formation of Zealand. It portrays the Goddess Gefjon driving a group of headstrong oxen that are pulling a plough. It was gifted to the city by the Carlsberg Co on the occasion of their 50th anniversary celebrations in the late 1800s. Work then began on the art piece by the Danish artist Anders Bundgaard. In the castle Casemates the brooding figure looms large. Seated with arms crossed and eyes shut he manages to still grasp a sword with one hand. Legend has it that he will only awaken when Denmark is under threat from enemies. He will then arise and raise his sword.See more..

Very beautiful symmetrical garden with view on the castle To access the gardens, from town, pass the bridge and walk to the fountain, keep left and pass the castle. The gardens are beautiful symmetric with view of the castle in the middle all the time. There are multiple levels with in the middle fountains/ponds, on the sides statues and plants. If you visit the castle, do not forget to visit the these gardens. Access is free.See more..
These vases are close to the train station and they are about 5 metres tall. They were a gift from a food company to the city on the occasion of Roskilde's 1000 anniversary in 1998. Inside the vases are names of all the company employees plus people who made the vases. They stand in water and are illuminated at night.See more..
