Wonderful creation from legends
It was great to see this tremendous dynamic sculptural creation, based on Norse legends of the formation of Zealand. It portrays the Goddess Gefjon driving a group of headstrong oxen that are pulling a plough. It was gifted to the city by the Carlsberg Co on the occasion of their 50th anniversary celebrations in the late 1800s. Work then began on the art piece by the Danish artist Anders Bundgaard. It was inaugurated in mid 1908.

One of My Favorite Attractions
I first saw this in May 2018 & returned in June 2019. It is one of my favorite places in Copenhagen. This large & beautiful fountain is drawn from Norse mythology. The giantess Gefjon is carving the island on which Copenhagen sits from Swedish territory. The fountain is set in a very pretty, very green part of the city & overlooks a gorgeous Anglican church. On my visits, it was free of tourist crowds, but I was in the vicinity early on weekend mornings.

Huge fountain
This is a huge magnificent fountain which attracts many tourists. You can find it on your way to or from the Little Mermaid. It was given to the city by the Carlsberg brewery. It features the Norse god Gefjon who is associated with ploughing.
