Visit if you have time

A historic village popular with tourists and locals. There is a large parking area just across the street but there’s a fee for parking. The street itself is only one walking path and many stores are not even open. You can expect to spend about 1-2 hours here. There is nothing much to see. The view is also quite normal.

    Day Visit To Ouchijuku
    Overall the day visit was quite pleasant with nice cooling weather. Just too bad numbers of the shop was not open. The Soba noddles and the grilled salt fish was delicious and they have beautiful shrine over there. A short day trip was worthy.

    history now essentially shops catering to tourists
    perhaps the expectations were too high. It takes a while to get here by train and bus and once here, the visual is of a historic time but the activities seem very singular in having exterior beauty of what is essentially a shopping arcade catering to tourists. Alternatives that might be more appealing with similar intent are the Nakasendo trial and the Hida region.
