Interesting architectural structure surrounded by a peaceful green surroundings. Very serene when I was there and there wasn’t a lot of people as well. This was where the late Date Masamune was enshrined. It was built in the year after his death according to his last will and testament by the next lord of Sendai-han, Date Tadamune. It was designated a national treasure in 1931. However, the mausoleum sustained massive damage from an airstrike by the US Air Force on July 10, 1945 during strategic bombings in World War II. It was burned down in a fire, along with the Kansenden of Sendai-han's second-generation lord, Date Tadamune and the Zenouden of Sendai-han's third-generation lord, Date Tsunamune. There was dispute over the reconstruction of the mausoleum, but reconstruction began in 1974 and finished in 1979. During excavation of the site, Date Masamune's remains and burial accessories were discovered. See more..

This was far more than expected. Thanks to my friend's suggestion i had an opportunity to visit this museum, without knowing what 's there. The museum is a walking distance from Sendai station, and even under the mid summer heatwave, thanks to so many trees along the street, you can enjoy a nice comfortable walk. At the museum there held was a special exhibition focusing on Hasekura Tsunenaga(1571–1622), A Japanese samurai and retainer of Date Masamune, and the first Japanese ambassador in the Americas and in Europe. I saw 'the certificate of honorary citizenship from the city of Rome' of Hasekura Tsunenaga. Also saw the official letter to the Roman Pope sent from DATE Masamune. These caught my heart because I am interested in Christian history in Japan, having visited Nagasaki many times so far. The fantastic Samurai Uniform of Date Masamune was also attractive to see ! 6. 4.5 Noguchi Hideyo Memorial (143 reviews)
    - Interesting Museum

This museum was interesting to learn about the man who is on the ¥1000 bill. There is his real childhood home and many interesting panals about his life. All this had a lot of English. There was some hands on stuff and information about his work which included the study of bacteria and viruses, but not much English in this area. The robot mannequin of him was done very well, but no English. It was fun to watch. There was a website where you can hear things in English, but I couldn’t find it. I should have asked for help, but didn’t. I felt like I enjoyed it without needing the extra English because I understood a lot of the Japanese. For English speakers you may appreciate it. The nearby soba restaurant was very good and family run. The lady serving us had a baby on her back and the grandfather stayed and talked to us for awhile. See more..
  7. 4.0 Yamagata Kyodokan (93 reviews)
    - Very unique underrated museum

    Yamagata Kyodokan image
It’s a little museum, located inside Yamagata Castle Park, north of Yamagata Station, about 13mins walk (1.1km) Honestly, it was in our plan as it look like “just an old building. We decided to pay a visit while in the park, but it turned out to be a surprised. It was originally a local hospital in the 1900s and the compound was beautiful . The museum displayed a lot of medical equipments and medical manual used in the old days. There are some old photos of the medical team and patients as well. It’s free entry and definitely worth a visit if you are nearby. Do drop me a message if need more info, and give me a thumbs up if you find the info useful. Thanks See more..
