4.5Praca da Liberdade(10.9k reviews) - Night Cray Points of Interest & Landmarks
Totally bonkers and all dolled up for Christmas, our after dark stroll was an extravaganza. People dressed as reindeer, lights everywhere, someone butchering Guns N Roses on an acoustic guitar, and a full choir. Feliz Natal!See more..
Absolutely stunning colonial town of Ouro Preto is world away from São Paulo hussle & bussle. It's beautifully preserved & the people are so warm & friendly! We hired a guide to tour this historical town who we highly recommend: João Batista - Guia de Turismo who speaks excellent English, he also speaks 3 other languages: Portuguese, Spanish & French. João carries a wealth of knowledge and made our trip that much more special. Give João Batista a try while you are there - [email protected] (+55 31 8831-6325 / +55 31 9274-5231)See more..

4.5Praça Tiradentes(2.486 reviews) - Scenic and Historical Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
Praca Tiradentes is the main square of Ouro Preto, the former capital of Minas Gerais State and one of my favorite cities in the world. At its ends are two museums, one devoted to the early 19th century insurrection headed by a dentist, "Tiradentes" ("tooth-puller"), the other a geological museum exhibiting gems mined in the area ("Minas Gerais" means "general mines.") Between the museums, on either side of the Praca, are jewelry and souvenir shops, restaurants, and travel and guide facilities. One interesting exhibit in the historical museum: copies, in Portuguese, of the American Declaration of Independence and the U S Constitution.See more..
4.0Praca Da Savassi(1.607 reviews) - WHAT A FUN PLACE TO VISIT !!! Points of Interest & Landmarks
After visiting the Plaza of Liberty and most of the Museums there, I wanted to find somewhere different to visit but it was getting late and I did not want to go too far. Someone suggested The Savassi Square, and boy is it a fun place to go. Sadly I did not stay long enough to eat or drink at any of the places here, but I will definitely come back this weekend to spend a few hours here. Lots of shops, bars, and restaurants in a very safe and friendly setting. You should not miss it even thought I am not giving any specifics, take the plunge and get over here, this place is happening !!!See more..

4.5Rua Conde de Bobadela(569 reviews) - A Great Place for Buying Souvenirs—and Exquisite Jewelry Points of Interest & Landmarks
"Rua Direita" (The Street to the Right), as the locals call it, is a great place for getting souvenirs from Ouro Preto. There is a good variety of shops, all neatly arranged downhill from Tiradentes Square. Some of Ouro Preto's most quaint and conveniently located hotels are there, too, such as the Solar da Ópera and Pousada Clássica hotels. It also boasts some of the best restaurants in town (try "Casa do Ouvidor", and ask for a table near the front balcony.) However, if you really want to take home a truly memorable souvenir, consider shopping for some exquisite, gemstone jewelry: imperial topaz, amethyst, acquamarine, tourmaline, emerald and many others. Rua Direita is laced with jewelry stores, on both sides, and, if you don't find the exact piece that you want, the jewelers can gladly fashion one for you, even from your own design, within a couple of hours or so. A few words of caution though: "watch your steps." It is way too easy to fall and hurt yourself on those cobblestones.See more..

Poços de Caldas means "hot spring wells". Poços (Ç = faÇade), besides this very peaceful site has got many other interesting places to visit, e.g. the statue of Christ, which is the second tallest in Brazil (only behind that famous one in Rio), the difference is that monument was build on top of a hill, which is part of the second largest cauldron in the world...o'course you can experience a cable car ride in order to get there. Those who visit Poços may also enjoy its hot waters (extinct volcanic area) at Thermas Antonio Carlos, and at Balneario Doctor Mario Mourao (at Praça dos Macacos or "The Monkeys Square", although you will not find any monkeys there, you might see them at Fonte dos Amores ( "Lovers' Fountain") though). Besides that, the nature is exuberant, lots of fresh air, people who are extremely hospitable to travelers, and everyone can experience the best of the local gastronomy, famous all over Brazil. The temperature is never too high (average 68 F or 20º C). It worths a while to watch these YOUTUBE videos: 1 - "POÇOS DE CALDAS - MG PELOS OLHOS DA DRONE VISION - IMAGENS AÉREAS" (aerial filming of Poços). 2 - "WE ARE POÇOS" (video inspired by the worldwide famous Pharrell's song "Happy"). 3 - "O DRONE E A BAILARINA" (The Drone and the Ballet Dancer). That was performed at the Palace Casino (ballrooms), and at Thermas Antonio Carlos (foyer), both in Poços. 4 - "SINFONIA DAS ÁGUAS EM POÇOS DE CALDAS" (spectacle of Sound and Lights, where more than 200 artists are involved). One last suggestion...to know a litlle about Christmas time in Poços"NATAL POÇOS DE CALDAS/MG - 2014". Have fun!See more..
4.0Fonte Luminosa(372 reviews) - A very bright fountain at night and very refreshing during the day ... Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
It is one of the attractions of Parque Central Afonso Junqueira. It ran very early in the morning before breakfast (next to Hotel Minas Gerais) and at night a romantic walk in the Illuminated Park at this time of year end. Lots of nature in the park and lots of birds bathing in the fountain in the morning. For those who like nature do not miss it.See more..

All made of wood, it shows several parts of Jesus life. Several small figures that move one part or the other, completely hand made for a lonely man who had no help of the government or no funding at all. The work of the artist life. A must see. Check the opening hours before visiting.See more..
4.5Rio São Francisco Spring(355 reviews) - Where a mighty river is born Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Points of Interest & Landmarks
The São Francisco River spring is one of those attractions that probably only Brazilians can understand and value. This mighty river is the stuff stories, folklore and myths are made of, yet to see it rising from the earth, gently bubbling then beginning to run its course north is nothing short of amazing. The São Francisco is the longest all-Brazilian river (the Amazon is born in Peru), running north- northeast through five states in its 2,800 km until it ends in the Atlantic Ocean. The spring isn't too far from the most popular entrance to the Serra da Canastra National Park (dirt roads, of course) and is well sign-posted. Next to it is a statue of Saint Francis of Assisi.See more..
4.5Basílica Nossa Senhora da Saúde(354 reviews) - Emblematic building stands out at Poços skyline. Points of Interest & Landmarks
Just a few churches in Brazil have got this title, I mean, Basilica, which means base or headquarters. This neoromantic building, inspired by a Belgian church, was completed in 1954. That occupies an entire block and its steeple towers about five stories tall (at a square, right on the main street of Poços, that is Assis Figueiredo). As a catholic myself, I attended the 6 P.M. mass, and I got struck by its beauty as I was touched by the locals' sincere devotion. If you can, watch the YOUTUBE video "Poços de Caldas - MG pelos olhos da Drone Vision - imagens aéreas" aerial filming of Poços, through that it is possible to see the church quite well.See more..
4.0Praca Nossa Senhora da Gloria(353 reviews) - Go get some shots straight on your face Points of Interest & Landmarks
This square is very dangerous, specially at night. You're gonna get mugged there. I've been there with a friend and we had to run away from a creep shooting trying to kill a thief. The square'd be great if there weren't those slums behind it and a huge lack of security. The police could be able to run away with you if necessary. Well.. that's my advice. I was born in the neighborhood and I wish things could get better over there. I just don't recommend Contagem for tourists. Go to Belo Horizonte, which is a breathtaking citySee more..

4.5Brasil Nota 10 Museu de Maquetes(257 reviews) - Enthusiastic youth describe various episodes in Brazilian History Points of Interest & Landmarks
Three youth took my mother and I through carefully built, detailed, and very scaled-down versions of several Brazilian historic events and World War II. They also have a original medical case that the famous Jucelino Kubitschec, a medical doctor in early years and later a Brazilian president, used to treat soldiers hurt during an early century revolution. Stop by, listen, and make a contribution!See more..

4.0Túnel da Mantiqueira(203 reviews) - Interesting historical place Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks

Walking down from the Basilica de Bom Jesus past the marvelous sculptures in soapstone of the twelve prophets one will come to the six chapels dedicated to the passion of Christ. As the stone figures near the staircarse of the basilica the sculptures inside the closed chapels, made of wood, they are also the work - according to tradition - of Brazil's most famous Baroque sculptor Aleijadinho. The sculptures can only be seen through openings at each chapel. In total the six chapels, going downhill from the church in a zigzagging way refer to the themes: Last Supper - The Garden of Olives - Arrest of Jesus - Mocking of Jesus - Carrying the Cross - Crucificion. There are some very expressive depictions of Jesu's suffering, but also bizarre caricatures of all the 'bad guys': dumb, ugly faces, often dwarfs and with two left feet. The colours on the figures, originally from the end of the 18th century, are still there, as there have been some restorations in later times.See more..
4.0Monumento Menino Da Porteira(183 reviews) - Portraits the spirit of southern Minas Gerais Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
I have always heard the music of Boy from the Porter in the south and now I have known the sights of the city including the statue at the entrance. It is simple but it represents well the happened one and the tradition south of Minas Gerais. Mounting plate must be serviced. Maybe put more flowers around. Across the road in front of the statue has a place to take photos and a place where you sell cane juice. Worth knowing the region is very beautiful. We went to visit a district of Ouro Fino, Chryólia, small town towards Andradas. A lot of coffee plantation, in fact excellent coffee and good price and delicious cheeses and candies with guava. Come and meet the Boy from the Port.See more..

4.0Torre Alta Vila(177 reviews) - Great views, sadly dirty and dead Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers
The view from the tower is 360 degrees and fantastic! However, a big problem is that it can only really be seen through large glass windows and the windows are dirty. Nice photos cannot be taken and the view cannot be appreciated as much. Also, aside from a Japanese/ international restaurant only opened for dinner, the place is completely dead! No stores, no cafes, not even the Hard Rock cafe anymore!! It felt scary actually. It costs R$10 to go to the observation deck. It is challenging to get to the tower/building with public transportation and there are no taxis there. If you take a taxi you should make sure it is waiting for you. It's too bad the place is do abandoned and dead. Hopefully it will soon be filled with action (no idea about any plans; there didn't seem to be any indications of any changes).See more..

4.0Capela de São João Evangelista(99 reviews) - Piano concerts at an 18th century church ... Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
"Capela de São João Evangelista" is a beautiful small church, which had its construction started in 1760. It is full of history! The legend says that the first heroes of the Brazilian independence from the Portuguese crown - the so called "Inconfidentes" - used to secretly meet at its adjoining parish house (now the "Museu Padre Toledo"), linked to the church through an underground tunnel. True or not, amazing legends anyway! The typical religious colonial construction, with a bell curiously placed in one of its windows (and not at the traditional bell tower), was re-inaugurated in 2016, after a complete restoration. Visiting Tiradentes, check its programme as piano concerts are performed occasionally within its premises. Enjoy!See more..
