I've been visiting a lot of churches in Ouro Preto and Sao Joao del Rei and definitively this is the most beautiful that I have ever seen! Very preserved, with huge cristal chandeliers. It is free to visit it. Go at night! In addition, there is a small square in front of the church with pubs and small restaurants with a good environment! Don't miss this visit!!See more..
4.5Santuario do Caraça(746 reviews) - Make sure you visit this special place! Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
If you are in Minas Gerais, I can absolutely recommend to visit the sanctuary of Caraça. We stayed here three nights and enjoyed every moment of it. It’s such a serene place with very friendly staff. Everything functions perfect, there must be an excellent hotel management behind it all. We have four kids (3-11 years old) and did many hikes of 1-3 kilometers, just right for the kids. All the trials are very well marked. We saw some breathtaking views and waterfalls. Breakfast is an experience on its own, we had fun making pancakes and eggs on the typical Minas stove. Lunch and diner were also very good. We slept well because of the cold evening breeze. We saw the wolves every night, we were lucky. I hope we can come back one day, it was just amazing. Highly recommended!See more..

4.5Nossa Senhora do Carmo Church(442 reviews) - My wedding happened here Architectural Buildings • Churches & Cathedrals
A Portuguese rococo style church. With ornaments, paints and sculptures from this period. It was the church that my husband and I chose to do our wedding. It's beautiful, clean (for the period) and elegant. If you are visiting SJDR, this church is worth a visit. It will give you the idea of the period when this city was a rich and active place of mining and rural production in Brazil.See more..

This small church overlooks the city. You reach it by climbing a series of very steep streets and steps. The view from the church's front steps is beautiful. The interior is filled with light despite being rather narrow. There are many colorful niches dedicated to various saints. There is also a chapel that houses a beautiful statue of Our Lady of Mercy. Next to the church there is also a small cemetery, where many important local people are buried.See more..

When you see it is like an UFO atop a small hilltop: conic-shaped and full of blue lights, but when coming to visit is just a Catholic temple with a lack of internal space. Around you'll find lots of parking space and the place's quiet, good for a fifteen minute visit at the most.See more..
