    - Easter cathedral uplifting experience!

    Cathedral of Galati image
Archdiocesan Cathedral of Galati can be visited by a citizen from outside the Orthodox as a tourist attraction. The building built of stone and Carrara marble, the interior is painted in fresco, starting with 1906, is dedicated to "St. Nicholas and St. Andrew. " The true spirit of Episcopal Cathedral you can find on Easter. When believers gather in front of the building and receive from Archbishop light at Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. People light candles they light passing from one another in the holy silence. Cathedral awash in an ethereal light and lies along the east ecuprins the holiday spirit. I chose to post some pictures from Easter. See more..

The Saint Andrew's Cave is a place where the Apostle lived in Dobruja. There is a church inside the cave and a bigger one outside (where are exposed some Saint's holy relics). The place is very spiritual and isolated and the road to get there is pitoresque. To get there you should enter Ion Corvin village and then you can see a monument of Saint Andrew, follow the road to the monastery. See more..

    Celic Dere Monastery image
Celic-Dere Monastery is located in a lovely rural setting in a clearing in a wooded area. Founded in 1838-1840, the church was built starting in 1901. To reach the church there is quite a long hill to walk up, but the view from the top is worth it. The interior of the small church is beautifully decorated. To the right of the alter is “The icon that cleans itself” which legend says was brought by a soldier. He told the monks that even though it was blackened, one day it would clean itself, and the eyes of Christ would open. Half of the icon is now light, the other half dark. A note to travellers; If you are looking for a WC this is not the place to consider looking for one. See more..

    Ratesti Monastery image
I was confused by the previous trip advisor reviews. It turns out there is a new modern monastery with a beautifully painted church. There is also an old monastery village site which has been severely damaged by an earthquake. I have never seen earthquake damage like it - the buildings are literally split in two. I'd love to know the story behind it but there is no information there. See more..

    - Of luck and martyrs ... a spectacular place.

    Palaeo-christian Monument image
The village of Niculitel in north Dobrogea 1971 , a particularly strong rain fall puts road building into stand still as a small flood is going through the construction site ... once the waters pass it uncover something very unusual, a cupola of what seems to be on old building.,, and indeed it was, what was uncovered by nature and later brought to the surface , by shear luck, was one of the oldest Paleo-Christian burial sites ever found - and it was found intact!! This is the final resting place for 4 martyrs of Christ who were executed between 303-324 A.D. by the Roman army - for their believes - at the fortress of Noviodunum that was situated only 15 km from this place (interesting thing, our history book say that the Roman army and administration retreated from the territories of current Romania in the 273-275 A.D. - looks like not all the garrisons did this...??) ... And how was this discovered - the names of the 4 martyrs with the inscription in Latin "Martyrs of Christ" was discovered in the crypt. The crypt itself cannot be visited today but from the walkway you can take some pictures and the custodian who is presenting the place will give you all the details you nee - entry ticket costs is only 10 Ron, but definitely well worth it. It is a spectacular site - inside a modern building built to cover the dig site and allow you to visit ... go and see for yourself - for those of you into history (or religion) it is a truly spectacular site to discover.
