This majestic church had a much different vibe than many of the other amazing churches I’ve visited. Absolutely stunning interior with many painted wood sculptures. The dim lighting gave it a more calm, yet serious feel to it. I would highly recommend visiting and lighting a candle or sitting in the pews and taking in the full experience. I loved the visit! This church is very special, painted white, with a Baroque interior. Lovely altar with large marble sculptures. There is also a little museum. In de basement you can see mummies of priests. The well known Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers has done the restauration of this church wich was first a convent for noble ladies and later an abbey. Now it is still used as a church. Entrance fee is € 3,00. Museumcard (only in Holland available) free entrance. See more..

the Basilica in Meerssen has a history that goes back centuries, okay nothing special in this region. However it is also a very pretty church which is regularly on TV on Sundays with a live Mess ! Just to show, I am not the only one saying this. there were two Miracles that happened here in the past, which still draws pilgrims until today to this church. a nice bonus, it is on a beautiful square with a few restaurant/ bars with nice terraces so you can afterwards have a special beer or coffee with a great view on the Basilliek. Meerssen is worth the short trip if you are for example in Maastricht. it is easy to reach by local train (2 stops only or 10 minutes from Maastricht) and of you go. enjoy it ! See more..

"Salviuskerkje" is the old church of the village Limbricht, located next to the Limbricht Castle. The church is smalll but it has long history, back to the end of the 10th century and begin the 11th century up to now. Sobere protestantse kerk uit het begin van de 18e eeuw. Rijksmonument. Van de oorspronkelijke kapel op deze plek (uit 1480) is niets meer te zien. Wel is een een fraai koor in laat Gotische stijl. In de tweede Wereldoorlog werd het gebouw ernstig beschadigd doch snel daarna weer provisorisch hersteld. Een totale renovatie volgde pas in de 90- jaren. See more..

This lovely chapel was built by Franciscan friars and now belongs to the Fraternity of St. Pius X (FSSPX) Masses according to the missal of John XXIII are offered every weekend (Friday-Saturday-Sunday) and on Feast days. The sermon is in German, as most of the young(!) congregants are from Germany. Confessions are available before every Mass during the recitation of the rosary. On Fridays there is Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The priest speaks German, English and French. The altars, communion rail and organ were all handmade by the friars and they are still there. De Johannes de doper is de parochiekerk van Meerlo. Rond 1485 werd hier een gotische kerk gebouwd. In de dertiger jaren van de vorige eeuw werd deze vervangen door een neogotische kruisbasiliek. De toren van de oorspronkelijke kerk bleef behouden. In 1944 werd de kerk zwaar beschadigd echter in 1954 werd herbouwd. In de kerk zijn een tweetal vijftiende eeuwse heiligenbeelden en de preekstoel dateert uit 1700. De kerk heeft geen monument status. See more..

De kerk staat naast het kasteel Mheer op het hoogste punt van het dorp.
Ca 1626 werd er een kerk hier gebouwd maar ca 1786 kwam er een nieuwe kerk vanwege de rampzalige toestand van de oude kerk. Echter bleek ook deze kerk een eeuw later weer aan vervanging toe te zijn. Ca 1880 kwam er dus weer een nieuwe kerk welke nu te zien is.

We kwamen toevallig hier in het kleine dorpje Geulle wat een leuk pleintjes heeft met de kerk en daarom heen wat huizen.
De eerste kerk dateerde waarschijnlijk uit de negende eeuw en was toen een houten kapel. In de 14 eeuw toen er een pastoor kwam zijn er verbeteringen aangebracht en in de 16 eeuw werd de kerk verbouwd. In 1920 werd dwars door de oude kerk - een volledig nieuwe kerk in neogotische stijl gebouwd. Bij de ingang naar de kerk staan een bord met uitleg over de kerk.
