   This is really amazing place, with special climate and view. And air, full of steppe flowers... There is no public transportation so you either drive (roads are really bad!) or you take a tour. If you take a tour, it's better to take a private one because group tours are very short. Be aware that you will need to go down, about 700m to cave monastery. Trail is fine if you do not have any walking problems. Stones are sharp and can break even car tyres, so take closed shooes, not sandals. I'd not recommend to go here in rain or after rain. It's possible to go down to water and even swim, but only in case of private tour - group tours are too short for this. You will need to pay for monastery visit (pay when you already go down). 20 UAH for adult and 10UAH for child. For this money you get a lecture about this place. See more..

   Probably the most interesting and unusual religious building in the city. The first church was built on this site back in the 14th century, later rebuilt. In the Turkish period, the church was a mosque, a minaret was attached to it. When the Poles returned, a statue of the Virgin was added. Inside the church there are richly decorated chapels, icons, a graceful statue of the girl Laura. In the garden there is a monument to Pan Volodyevsky, the prototype of the hero of the novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz. To hear a detailed history, it is better to take a guided tour. See more..

   A temple and a fortress in one, Satanov synagogue is a very interesting landmark to see. Been there couple of times before, so I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the building after the restoration. The outer and inner masonry, the interior, the battlement around the roof - all was scrupulously renovated with attention to detail and respect to history.    Museums of such kind are often overlooked, especially in small towns. This should definitely not be the case there (by the way the Gallery is one of the oldest museums in Ukraine). The Gallery has very rich collection so only a small part of it is displayed at a given time (the exposition is changed from time to time). There are unique works of art in the collection and to best experience it, I strongly recommend taking an excursion. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly whether they conduct excursions in languages other than Ukrainina and Russian, hopefully, English is present. The excursion costs just 2 US dollars and is worth every penny (actually, much more). In addition, it's interactive! The Gallery is one of the best kept and diverse museums I've ever been. Вокруг - лиственные леса в которых сохранились бывшие пионерские лагеря и базы отдыха предприятий. Сейчас они стали частными базами отдыха и ресторанно-гостиничными комплексами. Рядом же находится женский монастырь, который реконструировали в последние 10-15 лет. Предание гласит, что в этом монастыре побывал один из российских императоров, когда приезжал в Меджибож на войсковые учения-манёвры - тогда рядом была граница с Австро-Венгрией. В советские же времена тут был крупнейший Летичевский УР (укрепрайон с ДОТами), а в 60-80-х годах XX века вокруг были стартовые позиции объектов РВСН (ракетных войск стратегического назначения).     Kamyanets-Podilski has nothing to do with Chernivtsi and should NOT be listed among the things to do in Chernivtsi. It’s a city located in Khmelnitska oblast of Ukraine, as far as in 80km from Chernivtsi, and is second largest by population in the oblast. One of the most ancient cities in the country, Kamyanets is a must see in the Western Ukraine, not only for its famous fortress of XI-XII. The whole city is a live history and open air museum. Sometimes referred to as a “City of seven cultures”, Kamyanets preserved the variety of its heritage. It’s no wonder to find here a Catholic Cathedral and a Turkish Minaret, an Armenian Church and a Synagogue, some neighboring the other.     When the Ottoman Turks conquered the town they built a minaret over a chapel attached to the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, which they turned into a mosque. When the Turks were banished nearly a hundred years later, a statue of the Virgin Mary was placed on top of the minaret on the Muslim crescent and the mosque became a church again. According to our guide there was an agreement when the Turks were defeated, that the minaret would not be destroyed. This is probably the only such example in the world now. The tower is round with slit windows and the stone work is in good condition with restoration work being done back in the '60s. There are patterns carved in the lower stone work. This along with the Cathedral is well worth a visit for something so unique. See more..

    The City Hall is situated in the Polskiy Rynok Square along with the Armenian Well. This was the Polish quarter in the old town when different ethnic groups lived in their own areas. The area is now being restored. While we arrived there late afternoon the City Hall was closed and I do not know if it is open for visitors or not. Even so the building is very interesting architecturally along with the surrounding buildings. The whole Old Town is ranked third in the Seven Wonders of Ukraine. See more..

    Its construction started in 1585 and it is a very impressive tower some 7 stories high on the town side and it is in good condition.The side facing the river is semi circular. It is one of the largest gates as this corner was considered most likely to be attacked. It has a long vaulted passageway through part of the tower and due to the effect of the wind passing down the passageway the gated entrance is known as Windy Gate. Its proper name is Vitrriana Brama. It was built using funds collected by the furriers in the town so it is called Kushnirs'ka Tower after them. On the opposite side of the passageway to the Tower is the the Turkish Bastion. Growing on the walls overlooking the river is one plant which is protected in Ukraine and it is hindering any restoration work in this area.     We all know Hagia Sophia that was initially chirch and then become mosque. This monastery has similar story, but even more, it became christian monastery again. It still has minaret, by the way.     No one knows where the original (wooden) church was built. However, the church was a matter of a bitter dispute between its congregation and a prior of the Cathedral of St.Peter and Paul.
