- 5.0 Khiri Wongkot Village (1 review)
-Rural village under the embrace of the mountains, forest and stream

Driving about 2.5 hrs from Udon thani city, Kiriwongkot village located in the northwestern most point of Udon thani province (border to Nongkhai and Loei). Unfortunately, there was a heavy rain when we arrived there, so we had to wait for almost 1 hr before the activity. We spent the next 1 hr on an e-tak car (tractor) penetrating through an abundant jungle and its creek. Luckily, due to the heavy rain, the forest looked "lively" and the weather was cooled down which made us feel "fresh". We enjoyed rural greenish views, excited about the forest atmosphere and had fun when we let our feet into the creek while the car was running. Then, we stopped for having a local lunch at a little waterfall in the midst of the jungle. Our meal included "Somtam" (papaya salad), grilled fish, grilled chickens with sticky rice and banana stalk curry. All of them were prepared and served in "natural" ways. Somtam, grilled fish and grilled chickens were served on banana leaves, while sticky rice and curry were served in bamboo tubes. Even spoons were also wooden! Very nice. However, the return trip was damned hot. The net cost of this activity (including lunch and e-tak car with a driver) is 1500 baht (up to 5 passengers). Actually, there are another activities than this (which we didn't participate) such as coffee plantation, tasting local fruits, seeing wild bees and boars, homestay. Overall, I love this village and strongly recommend all travellers to Udon thani that this place is "a must visiting". See more..
