- 5.0 Sossusvlei (1.315 reviews)
-Even More Beautiful from Above
Deserts
Stunning and unique, Sossusvlei is a must-see destination in Namibia. The way light plays on the dunes, arriving here at sunrise is imperative if you love spectacular scenery. And while here, I would recommend a stop at Dead Valley to see the tree remnants trapped and relieved of their water source. Such an otherworldly/apocalyptic vision. Bring plenty of water as it is very dry and hot here by mid-morning heading into noon. We had the added bonus of flying over the dunes en route to our next destination. The views from above are just as spectacular as those from the ground. See more..
- 5.0 Deadvlei (994 reviews)
-Not to miss - 100% recommendable
Nature & Wildlife Areas
Feels like you're on another planet, 100% recommendable. Don´t miss the big daddy & big mamma as well, running down the dune slope is a must! Note: Easy access but a 4x4 is needed, be sure to get there just before sunrise. The morning colours are stunning, and there were very few people until about an hour later when the main gates open for those who stay outside the park. We stayed for sunset which felt a lot more peaceful and with a nice light for photographing a lot longer than in the morning as the dunes in the west are lower. - 5.0 Big Daddy Dune (534 reviews)
-Out of this world! An absolute must!
Spent 1-2 hours Deserts
Let's just say they don't call it Big Daddy for nothing.. this dune is monstrous in size! We parked in the same spot where you would park for Deadvlei and was probably a 15-20 minute walk to the base of the dune. The time it takes to climb the dune depends on a few things -- If it's early morning, say sunrise, the sand is cool under your feet and the sun hasn't fully risen over the tall dunes around the area, which makes it easier than if you went a midday where the suns heat would slow you down. Either way, it could take you anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour to climb to the top! The views are absolutely stunning from the top, especially since it overlooks the bright white clay pan known as Deadveli! well worth the climb. Just make you sure have enough water on your ascent as it's no easy task as there are some steep inclines! See more..

Deserts

- 5.0 Hidden Vlei (96 reviews)
-Cannot even begin to describe this unbelievable scenary
Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
This was out first stop and we decided to climb big daddy- this is the dune that surrounds deadvlei. Once on the dune the views down to deadvlei are incredible. The contrast between the blue skies, red dunes and white "Salt" and dead trees is just magical. Take a stroll around, empty the sand from your shoes and take enough photos. Definately take a hat, sunscreen and water. You can also just walk to the deadvlei- you don't have to clim the dune to experience it. It is still quite a walk though. I would not recommend for any one with any walking difficulties. See more..

- 4.5 Dune 45 (577 reviews)
-Excellent Sunrise - well worth it
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Deserts
We did the sunrise at Dune 45, the climb was great but still tough especially when climbing the steeper part of the dune. Murder on the quads!! That said, it was all worth it to watch the sunrise over the dunes when we got to the top. Definitely a photogenic place for landscape photos and selfies. If you want to save yourself some time on the descent, run down the side of the dune to the bottom - really fun! See more..

- 4.5 Elim Dunes (16 reviews)
-Impressive
Spent 1-2 hours Geologic Formations
We visited here during our recent tour of Namibia. Our primary reason for our visit was Birdwatching and to look for the endemic Dune Lark. We were unsuccessful in our endeavours but the dunes were ample compensation. We didn’t climb the dunes, just made do with the spectacular sunrise from the base. Very impressive, cold to start with but quickly became very hot. Highly Recommended. See more..

- 4.0 Sesriem Canyon (917 reviews)
-worth the time
Canyons
we were there in the dry season. only one small puddle below parking lot was left. nice and cool there to. it's a good place to visit, to observe the formations and soil layers water makes. we also walked to the west side, ca. 3 km deep, where canyon spreads up. i'd recommend if you want to intake different landscapes a river makes while looking for best path. - 4.0 African Extravaganza (8 reviews)
-If you are looking for professional guide, this is the right choice
Multi-day Tours • Private Tours
Extravaganza tour has been amazing. We enjoyed a 10 days private tour around namibia (Windhoek, etosha, damaraland, sossusvlei). Sven, our guide, was perfect. Professional, kind, flexible and full of knowledge. He shared with us so many information about animals, landscape, plants and geology … He knows perfectly each region and how to drive in any condition. He was the added value to our tour. We will never be able to thank him enough. Strongly suggested (and ask is Sven is available). See more..
- 4.0 Gamsberg pass (1 review)
-Amazing views
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts
Traveling from Swakopmund to Solitaire( or the opposite way around) you can choose from several routes going over the passes. One of them is the Gamsberg Pass. The tracks are pretty good and you will be rewarded with beautiful (photographic) views. A lowered tyre pressure is recommended for more comfort and grip. After getting back on tar a fuel station where you can put up the pressure again is not far away most of the time. See more..
