    Scenic Drives
    Karibu Safari image
I recently went on Karibu's Classic Safari through Namibia. I thought Etosha and the animals there would be the highlight of the trip, but I was wrong. Karibu's carefully planned itinerary showed me so much more of this amazing country, and allowed me to experience a variety of adventures from watching the silent majesty of elephants, to the sheer joy of running down a steep, soft, sand-dune. The guides are interesting , knowledgeable and fun. Their wonderful campsites and camp staff made me feel pampered and comfortable, so I could cope with the heat of the day. (Love those cool cloths at the end of the day!) The pop-top safari truck let me get close to the animals and take some great photos. Loved the whole experience...can i do it again? See more..

    Old Oil Drill Rig image
Skeleton Coast National Park, Namibia We camped close to the old oil drill rig. Great experience, but you´ll need a 4x4 plus food & water: there´s absolutely nothing in hundreds of kilometers around! Easy to spot whale bones and shipwrecks. Kind of strange, full of loneliness and a thousand kilometres of savage emptiness - Skeleton Coast is definitely one of a kind! Owner & Copyright: Carlos Bobillo Barbeito See more..
  11. 4.5 Cuno Hoffmeister Memorial Observatory (2 reviews)
    - Astral Experience!

I recently visited small, private observatory - and what an inspiration it was! Completely privately founded by a passionate elderly lady, who is so full of the subject on stars, star-gazing, Namibian skies and astronomy. Worth of popping in (by prior telephonic arrangement) if you are a 'star-lover'. You will find your visit quiet enlightening and input-full. Some 20 min, easy drive from Windhoek. See more..

This is definitely a good place to get a good view over the city. It is connected with some steps (it is also wheelchair accessible) but it pays out to walk the whole way up. Also the memorial itself is interesting to see. It looks beautiful and is really new. Normally here are not many people, so you have a relaxed time here. See more..
  20. 4.0 Safari Gästefarm Düsternbrook (49 reviews)
    - Amazing scenery and close up Leopard and Cheetah feeding and look
    Zoos
    Safari Gästefarm Düsternbrook image
I did the Safari part to see Leopard and Cheetahs. Dusternbrook is located about 40 KM from the city Windhoek. About 15 KM is dirt road and the scenery is enjoyable. You pass through dry rivers before reaching Dusternbrook. Once you reach there, you will be put on a safari vehicle with other groups and start the tour seeing leopard. We were informed by the guide that leopards are unpredictable and you can not be too close to them. But, from a distance the guide was throwing meat and the leopard was interested on the meat than us. It is not that scary to be close to leopard in an open vehicle. But, you have to be careful not to have a camera with flashes and not disturb the leopard that could make him nervous. The next tour was visiting two Cheetahs. The cheetahs are so friendly and we even touched them. The guide said their behavior is friendly and don't become aggressive unless they are attacked. Therefore, I encourage all to visit Dusternbrook if you happen to be in Windhoek. See more..
  21. 4.0 Owela Museum (49 reviews)
    - Definitely worth a visit
    Speciality Museums
    Owela Museum image
I really enjoyed my visit to this museum, the displays were informative and interesting. I particularly enjoyed reading about the history of the elephant's evolution, and the construction of the Nama huts. There are also some shocking infographics about the decline of the rhino and cheetah across the African continent. Sure some of the dioramas are old (some over 50 years) but they are beautiful and well kept. It's quite dark inside, and it wasn't possible to go downstairs due to electrical problems. But still very much worth an hour or two - one of the better attractions in Windhoek. See more..
  22. 4.0 St Mary's Catholic Cathedral (28 reviews)
    - The St. Mary's Cathedral has a unique experience
    Churches & Cathedrals
    St Mary's Catholic Cathedral image
Daily masses at the Cathedral. The most popular mass is the 07:30hrs mass on Sundays. Monday morning mass is said by none other than the humble Arch Bishop of Windhoek himself His Highness ‎Liborius Ndumbukuti Nashenda. Morning masses at this Cathedral are said on Mondays, Tuesdays. Thursdays, and of course Sundays. Sunday has 4 masses: 07:30, 09:15, 10:30, and18:00hrs, said in English, except the 09:15hrs in German. The Church Choir sings from an elevated platform right above the main entrance from the East. The singing is loud and lively. The 10:30hrs mass is said in Portuguese only on the 3rd Sunday of the month, and popular with Angolans who themselves speak the Portuguese language. See more..
  23. 4.0 Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary (17 reviews)
    - Fantastic Experience.
Spent 2-3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary image
We volunteered at the Sanctuary for a week. It was a great experience. Helping to rehabilitate animals to release back to the reservation. There is great bunch of people great food and glamping in the desert. The working day is 0800-1630 with a varied programme such as: Preparing the food and feeding all the animals. (Lions, cheetah, wild dogs, leopard, meerkats, warthog) Setting camera traps and logging the information captured. Opportunity to go out with the Anti Poaching Unit. Horse rides in the bush with Giraffe and many other kinds of game. There are too many things to list but it was a great experience and highly recommended if you want to work with animals and help conserve them and their habitat. There are also other locations, in Namibia, run by the Naankuse Foundation where you can volunteer. See more..
  24. 4.0 Namib Carnivore Conservation Centre (16 reviews)
    - Fantastic and educational tour
Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Namib Carnivore Conservation Centre image
I was so impressed by this tour, whilst booking I had high hopes and the tour surpassed my expectations. The two guides were clearly passionate for the cause and we learned so much about cheetahs. The manager went above and beyond to help us including helping us get a replacement tyre for our 4x4. In response to the negative review, if you're expecting performing animals, or hunting scenes like in lonely planet then you may be disappointed. Working as a Tanzania travel specialist and having seen a lot of wild big cats, these cheetahs are like any other wild (or domestic) cat and spend most of their time lazing and lounging. If you want to see and photograph some beautiful cats and support this brilliant charity then I highly recommend it. See more..

National Botanic Garden of Namibia image
Despite Namibia having had poor rainfall, and therefore the gardens being dry, this was a great place to drive to on our first afternoon in Windhoek. There are lots of little trails leading through the different types of vegetation found in the country, all with explanations (on signs and on your map). Entry is free, so why not discover a little more about the country you're visiting? The desert area (under shade cloth) is particularly informative. Clearly the staff are passionate about their garden and want you to enjoy the fruits of their labour. See more..
  30. 3.5 Avani Windhoek Hotel Casino (71 reviews)
    - Top notch
    Casinos
    Avani Windhoek Hotel Casino image
Windhoek, Namibia’s capital city, is described as a city with a ‘continental’ atmosphere and this can be ascribed to its architecture – historical buildings dating back to German colonial rule. Windhoek was initially known as Ai-gams a Nama word meaning ‘firewater’, ‘steam’ or ‘smoke’ because of the area’s plentiful hot springs. See more..
