- 4.5 The Ovahimba Living Museum (26 reviews)
-Surprising well done; and a happy dance party at the end
Friday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours History Museums
The road sign attended us to this show village, but the hima actually lived there most of the time. We took the full two-hour tour and were guided by John who spoke good English. In the beginning he explained all acts, but gradually the group became more active with a lion-attack and it ended with a whole village song and dance partt. They almost did not want to end. Afterwards several group photos. Super entertainment on recent history and actual life. See more..

- 4.5 Kaoko Information Centre (21 reviews)
-Visit to the local Himbas
Visitor Centers
We had a fantastic day yesterday with Tjingi as our guide to a Himba village. Himself being a Himba, he was the right person who explained evrything about the complex family structures, traditions and history of the Himbas. If you are in Opowu and you want to learn about the Himbas, go to the Kaoko Information Center rather than booking a superficial tourist tour through the lodge. Before every visit you go to a local supermarket with the guide and buy basics nutriments that the guide puts together for the villages you will visit. This way you support the local village directly. Thank you again guys See more..
- 4.5 Ugab River (12 reviews)
-We spotted desert elephants along C35 as it crossed he Ugab River bridge
Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water
The Ugab is a river system that stretches nearly 500 kilometres in the Damaraland region of Namibia. The riverbed is dry most of the year but there remains small pockets of water, enough for hardy wildlife, including the unique herds of desert adapted elephants, which can be found living along the Ugab River. We recently spotted a small herd of elephants on the C35 as it crossed the river. They were around 40 metres off the road and in full view for those who wanted to stop their drive and enjoy the elephants before continuing their drive northbound. This was a pleasant surprise and one that we greatly enjoyed. Not sure about what sightseeing activities might exist in the Ugab River area in relation to seeing the desert elephants. However, for those continuing north into Damaraland, several resorts offer desert elephant safaris. The likelihood of seeing the elephants during these games drives is very high. See more..

-A surreal experience!
Nature & Wildlife Areas
A family dedicated to the plight of the cheetahs gives tours to help pay for the keep of them. The government gives no help or assistance to them but they continue anyway. They have about 4 at their home who are 'tame'. We were able to pet them, have our photos taken and watched them eat (donkey). We were then taken out on the truck to feed the wild cheetahs. I would go back to this place in a minute. See more..

- 3.5 Otjikandero Himba Orphan Village (151 reviews)
-Worth a visit
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
When we planned our holiday in Namibia, one of the main purpose - togheter with Etosha and Sossusvlei - was visiting an himba village. We were told the best experience was visiting the villages far north (Opuwo) and having just 10 days we were worried that our visit to the villages around Kamanjab could be a disappointment. On the way from Twyfelfontein to Etosha the easiest option was Otijkandero Orphan Village, between Kamanjab and Outjo. We left from Twyfelfontein Country Lodge 7.30am and arrived at the village around 11am. The tour takes about 1 hour, an himba guide shows you the village and some activity. It's possible to interact with people and you can take your time for pictures. From here we drove to Outjo, had lunch and then drove to Okaukuejo with plenty of time for a self drive safari inside the park. All in all a good tour, great pictures but especially a great experience talking with people with different culture. Moro, Perivi, Nawa! See more..
