  1. 5.0 Naute Kristall Cellar and Destillery (44 reviews)
    - Great gin, brandy, and rum close to Naute Dam
    Spent 1-2 hours Distilleries
Naute Kristall Cellar and Destillery image
Staying in Keetmanshoop on our way to Southern Namibia, we learned about a local distillery and decided to stop by. We enjoyed a tasting of the brandy, rum, and gin produced on site, mainly from dates that would otherwise be disposed of as they do not meet the optical standards, i.e. because the skin broke open. We learnt a lot about the production process, and the signature botanical of the gin, devils claws. The owner took a lot of time to explain everything to us while we did not only enjoy the distilled products, but also home-made cake and sandwiches. Located just at the Naute Dam on route to Fish River Canyon, stopping at the distillery is absolutely worthwhile. We will bring two bottles of gin with us as we very much liked the flavor defined by botanicals such as lemon, orange, rosemary, mint, ginger, cinnamon, and of course devils claws. See more..
  2. 5.0 Mesosaurus Fossil Site (5 reviews)
    - Mesosaurus tour and bush camp.
    Spent 1-2 hours Geologic Formations
    Mesosaurus Fossil Site image
Informative fossil tour, and really nice quiver trees. Oom Giel tells a great story. The bush camp is rustic, with no electricity, and hot water via a donkey (wood fired geyser you need to stoke). +/-5 sites. Ablutions are clean, with flushing toilets. If you are equipped to camp without 220V, it is awesome! See more..

Visiting the Quiver Tree Forest and Giant’s Playground was a highlight of our Namibia tour. We did this early evening into sunset and couldn’t have chosen a better time. The skies surrounded the trees and the rocks respectively, making the most beautiful pictures. See more..
  5. 4.0 Brukkaros (9 reviews)
    - Real adventure
    Volcanos
    Brukkaros image
The Brukkaros experience was amazing. You have to be ready to go wild. Both camps were abandoned (looks like more than a year ago). The road from lower camp to upper camp are not really suitable for 4X4 car. It is almost crashed. We made only 500 out of 1500 metres. For a nightb we stayed in a lower camp - small fasilities, no water, so you should be self sufficient. The best thing - nobody was around and the whole place was only for us. We have not meet any people next day as well. You should be comfortable with solitude. Next morning, we did a trekking to the top. The route was rought (after upper camp, you go right with trail). The road from lower camp to the top is approximatly 6.5 km, but you only get up for 600 metres. After you'll reach the abandoned solar observatory (nothing interesting) take extra effor and go up for 50 metres without the trail. You'll reach the edge of the crater and will see beatefull landscapes. Will defiantly come back next time. See more..

  9. 3.5 Naute Dam Viewpoint (36 reviews)
    - Oasis and Agri Jewel of the South!
Spent < 1 hour Dams • Scenic Walking Areas
    Naute Dam Viewpoint image
Knowing Naute Dam since childhood; it was a GREAT adventure visiting again. This dam provide on a 10/10 loyalty scale water to Keetmanshoop for years and never ever failed her clients. It is a beautiful arid reservoir BUT more interesting and surprising was the agriculture development next to it. High quality dates are exported and new developments just shows the initiative and soil richness of this area. Self-catering tourist accommodation development around the dam such as at Hartdap will add value. Interesting to see in future is what the new dam development in the Fish River (old suggestion from the previous German colony) will hold for the whole South.... See more..
