Nice place to see, but take care of Flies !

You can Hike easily at Kuiseb River as long there is no water. However flies can really be a problem there!

Great stop on the road between Sesriem and Swakopmund
Beautiful rugged area in Namib-Naukluft National Park, on the C14 from Sesriem to Swakopmund. Most tourists with a rental will take this road. If you do, stop for a while on the picknick spot just of the main road (GPS 23.3039848 S 15.7893675 E).

Stark contrast in landscapes, best viewed from the skies
The Kuiseb River runs from Windhoek to Walvis Bay where it is finally absorbed into the sand prior to reaching the sea. Most interestingly, the river represents the northern end of the reddish-orange sand dunes of Sossusvlei which are blocked by the river and Kuiseb Canyon. One nice way to visit the area is the stretch of the C14 around 130 kilometres east of Walvis Bay known as the Kuiseb Pass, which takes passengers through a portion of the Kuiseb Canyon area, showing off dramatic landscape and scenery in the form of exposed sedimentation layers that have bent, cracked and burst through the Earth's surface, leaving endless jagged lines, roughly formed hills and genuinely unique geology and landscape. However, perhaps the most impressive views of the Kuiseb River and Canyon is by way of the scenic flights which provide breathtaking views from above. Here you can see the red-orangish dunes racing north to the river, where they blocked by the canyon and green riverbed, which then turns into black and greyish coloured barren land north of the river. This stark contrast of three distinctly different landscapes together bumping up against each other is remarkable. Note: We viewed the Kuiseb River and Canyon by way of the Sossusfly charter flight with Bush Bird out of Swakopmund.
