BEST beach and water I have ever experienced. soft white sand and clear blue warm water. It's hypnotic. Watch out if a storm rises up though, after a windy day, there were a lot of jelly fish on the shore and one lady at our resort got stung pretty badly on her leg. One local told us that once March comes the waters are very smooth and that the locals don't even go in until their summer starts, lol! See more..

We explored the caves with a guide, and it was amazing!!! The history in the caves is amazing, it was about 23-24 degrees but the humidity was about 98%. Hot for walking around, but worth the visit. I came for the water activities and Cayo Blanco did not disappoint. Pros: 1) Beautiful beach with crystal clear waters. 2) Good snorkeling. I saw 2 Queen Angelfish which are arguably the most beautiful tropical marine fish in the ocean. I also saw 2 large French Angelfish and numerous puffer fishes. 3) Catamaran passes between mangrove forests. 4) The dolphin encounter will thrill those who have never been to one. Yes, the dolphins are in a concrete ocean pen the morality of which individuals can decide for themselves. 5) Nice large lobster lunch provided on Cayo Blanco. 6) Proper clean washroom facilities on the island. Cons: 1) Time on the island is limited and I was not able to walk the full length of the beach as I wanted. 2) It would have been nice if on-beach massage facilities were offered as in Mexico. Renaldo welcomed us at the entrance to the cave and was our tour guide. He showed and explained the cave drawings in detail. We came away knowing a little more about the past on the peninsula. There were lots of harmless bats and the floor was a little uneven and slippery so wear sturdy runners or sandals. Cost was 5$ per person, tour took 30 minutes. See more..

This was our first visit in 3yrs since Covid shut down travel, nothing has changed but still a neat place to visit and we brought my brother and his wife (their first visit) and everyone had a great tour. I drew up courage to hold a baby crocodile, not what I expected and glad I got the chance. There is a place to get drinks and snacks if you wish afterwards. Our guide in the cave was great and made sure everyone had a special experience and took their photos. If you take a cellphone or camera into the cave it is an extra $5 for the entrance fee. Located in the Zapata Peninsula just over 2 hours from Varadero, the Playa Giron is a popular destination for divers, with crystal clear waters full of coral, all kinds of fish in beautiful colors, sponges and a wide variety of sea life. It's so peaceful place and was not crowded. The water is clear and warm, the right place to enjoy. The restaurant is excellent and the food is varied and very tasty. The staff was wonderful. Interestingly, the village of Girón was named after the notorious French pirate Gilberto Giron. We are stopt at the Playa Giron Museum on the way home, so we had a very nice day, in good company and with good Cuban music. See more..

Every year that we go to Cuba, we stop by to St. Elvira's church for Sunday mass, which is at 10:30 am. Padre Jesus (Father Jesus), only does the mass in Spanish, but his passion radiates despite the language barrier. Parishoners are also very friendly. My husband and I also brought gifts for the poor, since the priest knows best who is truly in need. A must see 'antique church'!!!! See more..
