  1. 5.0 Punta Frances Marine National Park (37 reviews)
    - White beach and crystal clear water

Punta Frances Marine National Park image
As it is a national park, theres are no hotels, only a ranger station/museum and a few restaurants (which were closed at the time, I was there, so take food and drinks with you) and bathroom facilities. The only possibility to go there is with a diving boat, starting at the diving centre close to Hotel Colony. From Nueva Gerona take the bus or a taxi to Hotel Colony. It is the most beautiful beach on Isla the la Juventud and really worth a day trip. Most people go there for diving, but the beach itself is wonderful as well and you can do swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing. See more..

  6. 4.0 Arenas Negras (12 reviews)
    - Beautiful BLACK SAND BEACH
    Beaches
    Arenas Negras image
This is a very special and unique BLACK or Dark SAND BEACH. Not many like that. The only problem is that La Isla de La Juventud, is not included in any tourism plans and the manteinance of this beach like the many other on Island are very little. See more..
  7. 4.0 Museo Finca el Abra (2 reviews)
    - Cute little museum just out of town
    History Museums
    Museo Finca el Abra image
I walked out to the museum, less than an hour from the centre of town. The small museum itself is interesting for those wanting to see a place closely associated with early Cuban revolutionary Jose Marti. For me the nice rural setting with friendly farmers to chat to was more appealing. See more..

    - Main church of the island
    Churches & Cathedrals
Nuestra Senora de los Dolores image
A nice little colonial style building at the side of the main square, the oddity inside is the inclusion of the Cuban flag behind one of the statues. See more..
  12. 3.0 Museo Municipal (1 review)
    - Little museum in the centre of town
    History Museums
    Museo Municipal image
Cuba has many small museums, and Nueva Gerona has several. The Museo Municipal on the main square features several small exhibits about the history of the island, including about piracy and the role it played in the revolution. Several staff are on hand to walk around and make sure you don’t touch anything! Nothing flash, but worth a look if you have spare time in town. See more..
  13. 3.0 Museo Casa Natal Jesus Montane (1 review)
    - Nice collection about revolutionary history on the island
    Military Museums • History Museums
Museo Casa Natal Jesus Montane image

    - Quirky little exhibit with a friendly enthusiastic host

    Museo de los Deportes image
A bit of an oddity on the main pedestrianised street of Nueva Gerona, the Sport museum is a small room filled with memorabilia of the teams and athletes from the island. The woman working there was very friendly (note: she only spoke Spanish) and enthusiastically explained about some of the different athletes and their achievements. It was great to meet someone passionate working as a custodian of the little collection. See more..
