    Jardin Botanico de Cupaynicu image
Well worth spending a couple of hours to this little visited botanical garden. The Spanish speaking guide is very informative about the different trees ( about 100 different palm trees), endemic plants, medical plants etc. You have to to take a taxi to get there. We paid 20 cucs for the driver to take us there and wait for us. The entry is paid i cup and therefore very cheap See more..

    Bayamo Travel Agent image
On a recent trip to Holquin/Santiago, I used Bayamo Travel Agent for taxi service and booking of accommodations. Every service, Anley Rosales Benitez, CEO of Bayamo Travel Agent provided was perfect but more importantly, he was able to track me down so my travel agent in Canada could book me the last flight out of Holquin. I missed one week of my itinerary but I was able to get home safely. Now, that is what you call service. See more..
  3. 5.0 Cuba Horseback Rides (4 reviews)
    - Cuba horse riding
Friday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Horseback Riding Tours
    Cuba Horseback Rides image
We had the best horseback riding adventure tour ever. We rode horses in the Caribbean Sea, up into the mountains, and all around Marea Del Portillo. Aristico of Cuba Horseback Rides gave us the best vacation a tourist could ask for. The children in our group all rode for free too. It was perfect. See more..

  7. 4.5 Paseo Bayames (64 reviews)
    - Checking out this pedestrian street is a must if you are in town.
    Spent < 1 hour Neighborhoods
    Paseo Bayames image
"Paseo", or "Boulevar" is the colloquial name for Calle General Gacia, part of which is a pedestrian mall that extends eastward from Parque Cespedes for about 10 blocks. These days, there are an increasing number of stores that actually have items worth buying. There are two "Bazaaar" (flea market stores) on the south side that are worth checking out, where they sell everything from sandals to electric cable to wire a house. Unlike in the larger cities, such as La Habana and Santiago de Cuba, the local Cubans generally do not take too much of an interest in tourists and they leave you alone. They are took busy going about their daily lives. See more..
  8. 4.5 Travel in the Eastern Cuba (45 reviews)
    - Prompt service, English spoken well, recommended.
Friday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM Taxis & Shuttles • Hiking Trails • Eco Tours • Hiking & Camping Tours • Private Tours

I have been using Anley and the fellows who work with him for a number of years. Unlike many others in Cuba, these guys understand service and are very prompt. In addition they speak very good English. They can arrange a taxi, arrange an excursion or a casa and it is done in a professional manner. See more..
  9. 4.5 Wax Museum (40 reviews)
    - Little Museo is a Big Attraction
    Speciality Museums
    Wax Museum image
The Museo de Cera, Cuba’s only wax museum, is a great place to get a quick introduction to many cultural icons of that country. Figures are top quality in presentation, ..some surprisingly realistic. All are accompanied by informative posters telling their stories. At the time of my visit, most celebrities were from the entertainment field, although new ‘faces’ are introduced occasionally. Although I was pleased to see some of my favourite personalities represented, I was amazed by the aviary display, in back, which is composed of some of the most intricate work imaginable. Admission cost is $1.00 cuc for tourists, with a $5.00 charge for taking photos, which is hard to resist. The museum is situated on the pedestrian mall in Bayamo, where, with other attractions like mercados and restaurants, make for an afternoon well spent. See more..
  10. 4.5 Catedral de Nuestra Senora de la Purisima Concepcion (34 reviews)

  11. 4.5 Catedral Del Santísimo Salvador De Bayamo (11 reviews)
    - 2nd oldest village in Cuba!
    Churches & Cathedrals
Catedral Del Santísimo Salvador De Bayamo image
The second oldest village after Baracoa founded in 1513 by Spanish Conquistador Diego Velázquez de Cuellar. It has historically been known as the “Rebellious” city since it has been the home of several insurgency uprisings, including the outbreak of the first war of independence against Spanish colonialism in 1868 which gave way to an unprecedented event in Cuban history: rather than surrender the town to Spanish troops, its citizens decided to set it on fire proclaiming it the capital of the Republic in Arms, an altruistic act that subsequently resulted in the creation of Cuba’s National Anthem and a relatively modern historic center. Bayamo’s history turning point incidents deservedly earned it the title of “The Cradle of Cuban Nationality” and a National Monument. See more..

  18. 4.0 Parque Cespedes (29 reviews)
    - Small but pretty
    Spent 2-3 hours Parks
    Parque Cespedes image
I wouldn't suggest staying here but if you are in the region then well worth a quick visit. Like all of Cuba, even the smallest towns have beautiful central plazas and this place is no different. It's main claim to fame though is its association with the composer of the Cuban national anthem. There is a bust of him in the square together with the music and lyrics done in bronze. Very nice. There is also a lovely, old church just off the square. Certainly well worth a few photos. See more..
  19. 4.0 Casa de la Trova (26 reviews)
    - Son and Dance!
Spent 1-2 hours Bars & Clubs
    Casa de la Trova image
This, being my first Casa de la Troba experience, was a complete revelation! This casa is in a very central location on a little plaza tucked away behind an unmarked and unremarkable brown door, almost unidentifiable in daylight in old Bayamo. BUT at night, a transformation occurs and magic happens! The casa itself is under a thatched courtyard in between old buildings - it's not glamourous but the vibe is vital and down to earth. The music the night we went was fabulous and the master of ceremonies (don't know what you call him) was a great salsa teacher and had all us travelers lined up and salsaing in no time flat! The whole place, which was full of Cubans and not just visitors, was so fun and, I think authentic. Lots of Vitamin R on hand to ease you in and for the price of a couple of drinks - I don't even think there was a cover charge - it was an exciting intro to an integral and important part of Cubano culture. See more..
  20. 4.0 Parque Nacional Desembarco del Granma (13 reviews)
    - Desembarco del Granma National Park.
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
Parque Nacional Desembarco del Granma image
This is an other UNESCO as a World Heritage Site that stretches from Cabot Cruz to Pilon in Granma Province. The best place to stay is the Hotel Niquero or Hotel Villa Las Coloradas. The guide center is at the entry to the park in Las Coloradas. The guides speak many different languages and can take you on walking tours of the park. Further down the road towards Cabot Cruz is the Portada de la Libertad with a huge concrete bar and a tiny museum. There is a mock-up of the boat Granma on the road that is a pale imitation of the mock-up in Havana. I am told that the original boat Granma rotted away in Manzanillo. At the end of the road is beautiful Cabot Cruz. There is an excellent restaurant beside the lighthouse. As usual, the prices in CUPs are way cheaper than the prices in CUCs. See more..
