  2. 4.5 El Malecon (12.1k reviews)
    - A Romantic Promenade
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
    El Malecon image
The Malecon of Havana City is probably one of the most beautiful promenades of the world. It's truth that couples, friends and cuban families are used to hang around this long avenue which overlooks the sea. It's romantic for lovers and it's a place for artists and musicians who smell the cuban history. Malecon is included both in Vedado, Center Havana and Old Town. From one tunnel to other. The best part is along Vedado where nice hotels and casas particulares such as Penthouse 21 & M, Casa Betty et Armando Gutierrez, are excellent options. Nice restaurants are also near Malecon, some of them with direct view on the sea. A place for a nice promenade to breath fresh air and think deeply about life. Best time to go: after 7.00pm See more..
  3. 4.5 Old Square (Plaza Vieja) (8.632 reviews)
    - Beautiful Old Square.
Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Old Square (Plaza Vieja) image
What is now called the Old Square was originally Plaza Nueva (New Square), built as a popular alternative to Plaza de Armas, the military and government nerve center. Later called Plaza del Mercado (Market Square) as Havana's commercial hub, Plaza Vieja was the site of executions, processions, bullfights, and fiestas -- all witnessed by Havana's wealthiest citizens, who looked on from their balconies. The original Carrara marble fountain surrounded by four dolphins was demolished in the 1930s when President Gerardo Machado (1871-1939) built an underground parking lot here. Today the square's surrounding structures vary wildly in condition, though all of them are noteworthy. See more..
  4. 4.5 Plaza de la Catedral (6.721 reviews)
    - Another excellent area of Havana
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Plaza de la Catedral image
Havana is full of beautiful squares and this is another one, with its landmark Catedral de San Cristobal. It was free to enter so well worth a walk around - just ignore the guy outside with the dressed up dogs wanting money for photos! This area is quite the tourist spot and so is always pretty crowded. There are also numerous souvenir shops, but the charm of the area has not been diminished I don't think. See more..

We paid around $8 CUC per person to see "El cañonazo" which was an amazing experience to live (at 9pm). There are some stores and there is a restaurant, too. Notice, to get there you should take a taxi that was around $10CUC per 3 people. The view of La Habana was just perfect! The structure of the fort is beautiful... See more..

It is an absolute must if you visit Havana. The buildings are well restaured, you realy get a good idea what this city must have looked like in the pirats era. Have a look inside the small church in the garden. The wall paintings depict an interesting story. The little fortress can be visited, I didin't becaus I was in the city for only a day and there is much more to discover. See more..

The F.A.C., Cuban Art Factory, located on the 26 and 11 in Vedado, is the best night cultural proposal in La Havana. There is always something new to do, theater, jazz, contemporary dance, concerts, DJ's, exhibitions or intranet chatting. The best of all, all of this can take place in one night, while taking a glass of wine and eating delicious 'tapas'. Visit this place, a new Oxygen in Havana! See more..

This is such an absolute treasure. One artist started us at his own home, and over many years built this up to a really amazing little place. If you like unique, and creative locations, you have to come here. It is small and you can easily see it in a small amount of time, but it is still worth the trip. Souvenirs are very, reasonable and unique See more..

This is one of the four major squares/plazas in old town Havana. One of main streets in Old Havana. I do not agree with some opinions that tourism is completely dead now and do not come here. Of course it is true that is not even half the same. However it takes time to recover and we need to support it. On the other hand there are some advantages of not so many tourists as well. You can explore city without any crowds. See more..

Classes were Monday to Friday 8:30 to 12:30, with the afternoon free, but a homework assignment to be done for the next day. In my class wer students from China, Canada, Sweden, Germany and Nigeria. Gran Teatro de La Habana image
Stunning building. The only way to visit inside, however, is to buy tickets for a performance or take a 45 minute guided tour for 5 CUC. These run regularly through out the day and are definitely worth it as the building is equally impressive inside. If there is a rehearsal underway, the guide may also let you into the theater to watch some of it. See more..
  21. 4.5 Castillo de la Real Fuerza (747 reviews)
    - Built against pirates
    Historic Sites
Castillo de la Real Fuerza image
Castle of the Royal Force is a bastion fort on the western side of the harbour in Havana, set back from the entrance, and bordering the Plaza de Armas. It was originally built to defend against attack by pirates. However it suffered from a poor location- it was too far inside the bay. The fort is considered to be the oldest stone fort in the Americas. See more..

I took a trip here via the tourist bus which was very straightforward and took about 30 minutes for 5€. The bus departs every 40 minutes. Sun loungers and umbrellas were very cheap (150 cups). The sand and sea were very clean and it was very relaxing. There weren’t many facilities but there was a nearby cafe and people selling drinks on the beach. See more..
