At 10:30pm I spoke to someone in my hostel, who told me about a trip to Laguna del Otún in the Nevada National Park. I haven't heard of it, I quickly googled it and decided to join. The service of the Andes Turismo y Aventura was impeccable, in 10 Minutes everything was confirmed. They picked us up at 4:30am the following day. Our guide Sebas was great, he was funny and had a lot of information to share. After a bumpy incredible ride through nature's best, we reached the base of our trek where we were served a tasty/warming breakfast. We then hiked through the beautiful páramo-ecosystem upto 4,200 meters, it was blissful to say the least. Before heading to the viewpoint we suddenly faced Lake Otún (Laguna del Otún), simply breathtaking!! Back at the base we were served a tasty lunch. This is a very busy place, at the time of our visit there was a mass going on and the was parity full for a mid week early evening. The roof is supported by some very big pillars, the place was quite dark there was it seamed a lack windows. The building is different in that the for the first 4 m are stone which is supporting a further 4 m of wall made of wood which then supports a wood roof. Ok, my title should set a few thinks straight. If you want to go to a zoo then this is not the right place. However, if you want to walk in the forest, watch birds and maybe see howler monkeys then this is a good place that is very easy to get to. Just catch the Chiva bus at Plaza Victoria in Pereira and ride it to the end then start walking. You can also get off a little before the end or walk back to Yarumo Blanco also. It’s a smaller place with food, lodging, and guides. In Ucumari you can hike to La Pastora which also has lodging and food but is a bit more rustic but more beautiful. See more..

Great inexpensive plan, recommended for +7 year old and more. walk inside 2 mountains, wet roads, climb rocks, jump over trees , see tight roads on short cliffs and then you will arrive to the waterfalls, magnificent, make sure you pack bathing suit, cloths to change. You will find 2 convenient stores that will refresh you on the road. La Cristallina makes you wonder why we hear so little about white water rafting in Colombia . They do have gorgeous rapid rivers and just the right terrain. La Cristallina is the favorite weekend respite for Pereirans. We did not get a chance to enjoy it beyond looking at La Cristallina. We were told it is not quite ready for big tourism. Lovely Park with plenty of walking if you wish. At the entrance to the park there was the ususal makeshift huts, charging 1,000 - 2,000 pesos for loos and other inflated goods for sale. You could hire horses here and as we walked towards the hillside with the giant palms we had to dodge horseriders who were galloping at a pace up the hill. The mud road is churned up and difficult to walk at this point due to the horses. Once in the park it was more sedate and we wandered amongst the giant palms and admired the view. We walked up one of the hills but it looked like rain so returned to the car, in fact it bucketed it down so it was a godo movoe. Lovely place to visit - a must do on your itinerary See more..
