Cano Cristales is situated near Macarena about one hour's flight South of Bogota. Macarena does have a primitive airport for small aircraft. There are around 12 hotels. Access to the coloured rivers is by a small boat ride lasting around 30 moinures from Macarena to a hiking trail. Along the river you are likely to see turtles. The hike to get there lasts about an hour but the humidity makes it a difficult trek. Once there you can cool down in the refresshing cool water of the river. The colours are made by algae which do not grow all year long so do check out the best time to go. To see the colours at their best take polarised sunglasses and for taking photos take a polarised lens though I just covered my Iphone lens with my polarised sunglasses to good effect. See more..

Uno de los destinos de naturaleza más bonitos de Colombia. Desde hace dos años quería hacer este plan y por fin lo pude conocer. Es gratificante ver como una zona afectada por el conflicto armado se esta convirtiendo en un gran destino turístico y una gran oportunidad para las comunidades. El plan es para todo el día, yo hice rafting, el plan dura cerca de 5 horas en donde se recorre suavemente el rio, en algunos momentos hay rapidos, se visitan cascadas o se comtempla la espectacular belleza natural.

Yo sali desde Villavicencio en madrugada, en Mesetas se toma el desayuno y se desplaza al cañon, se almuerza al final del recorrido y regresé al atardecer.

I purchased the experience with AWAKE who works in partnership with Macarenia Travel.
