  1. 4.5 Centrul Istoric Sighișoara (1.601 reviews)
    - Well preserved historic centre
Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas • Architectural Buildings
    Centrul Istoric Sighișoara image
This UNESCO listed historic centre is much smaller and a great deal more intimate than Sibiu and the upper town which is the main attraction for visiting can be seen properly in a half day. At the time of our mid-October visit it was still relatively busy so would guess that in the heart of the tourist season it gets very congested with visitors as the place is relatively small with many narrow streets. Parking can be problematic but as we were staying overnight, it wasn’t an issue for us. This is one place not to miss. The restoration is spectacular. See more..
  2. 4.5 Turnul Sfatului (The Tower of the Council) (494 reviews)
    - A must do

Turnul Sfatului (The Tower of the Council) image
For 2 lei this is definitely a must do. The entrance is up some stairs at the bottom of the Council building (under the white arches). You pay and then climb up a few flights of stairs which aren’t too steep and are fairly wide compared to many other towers. At the top, you get a great panorama for the price and, although it’s enclosed so your photos might not be as good, it’s amazing value for the price. If you can time it for golden hour, then you’re in for a treat. See more..

Black Hawk (Vulturul Negru) Palace Arcade image
This ensemble of buildings is one of the monumental architectural works in Oradea and Transylvania, typical for the secession style. The architects Komor Marcell and Jakab Dezső won the contest for the construction of this complex. Two Jewish lawyers, Dr. Kurlander Ede and Dr. Emil Adorjan, decided to finance, using their own resources, the construction of a noteworthy building in Oradea. The work started in 1907, under the supervision of the civil engineer Sztarill Ferenc, and in December 1908 the building was completed. Consisting of two unequal and asymmetrical buildings, connected to a third one, placed in the middle and more isolated, the complex housed a theatre, ballrooms, a casino and offices. The Y-shaped gallery (passage) has three entrances. The Vittorio Emanuele Gallery in Milan inspired the glass-covered interior. The gallery or the Passage, as the local people know it, concentrates the most popular bars, coffee houses and pubs in the city, being the entertainment high spot of the city. See more..

    - If you are in Uniri square, don't miss it

Moon Church (Biserica cu Luna) image
This name derives from the mechanism installed in the church tower in 1793. The clock and the moon are the work of George Rueppe, an innovative mechanic from Oradea. The mechanism rotating the moon is designed to make a full rotation on its axis in 28 days, thus indicating the moon phases, depending on the daily cycle marked by the clock mechanism. Inside the Moon Church you can visit a representative museum, with particularly beautiful Orthodox church-related objects. See more..

    - Wonderful

Catedrala Mitropolitană Adormirea Maicii Domnului image
In the end this was our favorite place to visit in Cluj. Grandiose architecture, very impressed with the tile murals (I work with this stuff). The atmosphere is really peaceful and the place exudes something very spiritual (which is not the case with many of these places). I guess the spirit of the late great father Anania is embedded strongly into this church (his statue in outside, go say hi :) ) Do not miss this in Cluj See more..

My wife and I scheduled a one-day tour with Cornelia and had a wonderful and memorable time. Cornelia is pleasant, sociable, very knowledgeable, and energetic. We spent about 11 hours with her, and visited the Merry Cemetery in Sapanta, the Museum of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance in Sighet, Elie Wiesel’s childhood home in Sighet, the woodcarving shop of Teodor Barsan in Barsana (he was at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in 1999), the wooden church in Ieud, which is a UNESCO monument, a peasant museum in Ieud, traditional water-powered installations in Sarbi, and the wooden church in Budesti, which is also a UNESCO monument. We highly recommend Cornelia for your visit to Maramureș. See more..

    Oradea City Hall image
The City Hall Palace and Tower THE BUILDING IS THE WORK OF ARCHITECT RIMANÓCZY KÁLMÁN JR., WHO IN 1896 WON THE PROJECT CONTEST FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN OF THE CITY HALL. THE SOLEMN INAUGURATION MEETING OF THE LOCAL COUNCIL WAS HELD IN THE NEWLY-BUILT PALACE ON THE 10th OF JANUARY 1904. THE CITY HALL TOWER With a height of about 50 m and 4 main levels, three of which have observation decks, the City Hall Palace Tower is also hosts the clock announcing the exact time in Oradea. The mechanism of the clock, called the "mother clock", strikes every hour and plays Iancu's March. The local watchmaker Mezey Dezső built the mechanism in the early twentieth century, in 1904. The clock survived two world wars, while the roof and wall of the tower survived the two great fires of 1917 and 1944. The watch dial retains even today bullet holes from gunfires shot during the Second World War. The second level was also the observation point of the city firefighter on duty. Fires were announced by ringing a bell, depending on the area where the fire started. In the daytime, a red flag was unfurled in the direction of the fire, while at night an electric projector was used. See more..
