Turnul Sfatului (The Tower of the Council), Transylvania, Romania

A must do

For 2 lei this is definitely a must do. The entrance is up some stairs at the bottom of the Council building (under the white arches). You pay and then climb up a few flights of stairs which aren’t too steep and are fairly wide compared to many other towers. At the top, you get a great panorama for the price and, although it’s enclosed so your photos might not be as good, it’s amazing value for the price. If you can time it for golden hour, then you’re in for a treat.

Do not miss it when in Sibiu
One great surprise was Turnul Sfatului for me, because it was so much more than expected. I assumed (without any prior reading) there would be 2 floors max to climb and there are 5 storeys and the panoramic top view is really impressive. Plus we got to see some very nice art exhibition.

    Lovely View for 2 Lei
What can you get with less than 50 cents (Euro) these days? Not a lot, so it really is nothing to get a great view over the square and of Sibiu itself. The stairway is narrow and steep, but then it is an old building. If you can climb up the stairs just splash out, nothing to lose. As you go up you will pass a number of rooms in which they may have exhibitions - on my visit some local artists were busy setting up - very effective and interesting installations. Before reaching the highest platform one passes by the bells.
