4.5Drents Museum(639 reviews) - Great exposition about Pompeii: Perish in Beauty Tuesday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
Currently the fabulous Drentsch Museum has a gripping exposition about how Pompeii and Herculaneaum perished due to the volcano eruption. Very nice artefacts on loan from Italian museums. The exhibition is aptly named “Sterven in Schoonheid” (something like “Perish in Beauty”. Also worthwhile is their simultaneous Neo Rauch exhibition (the German painter also known from the art museum in Zwolle).See more..

4.0Industrieel Smalspoor Museum(26 reviews) - The Secret Railway of South Holland Tuesday: Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums
See more..
4.5Drukkerijmuseum(23 reviews) - Friendly helpfull staff, all volenteers! Very nice for childeren Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums
This small museum is really worth a visit, especially with children ( > 5 years). The museum is all operated by volunteers, mostly retired craftsman from printing companies. They demonstrate the printing machines and techniques and the children can make their own printings and do some graphic artworks as well. The children really enjoyed it and learned a lot about old printing techniques and graphic arts. The staff was helpful, enthusiastic and patient.See more..
This toy museum is for children and adults as well. Children can marvel at the toys from the past and have also opportunity for playing as well. As adult I was delighted to revisit the memories from my youth with the Meccano sets, Dinky Toys and Matchbox car miniatures and of course the miniature steam engines. (Maybe that's why I have studied for B.Eng) This museum is spread over three floors (with elevator service) and beside the toys mentioned, also a massive collection of dolls and dolls houses can be admired. Not a museum to make a trip to Roden for, but a very interesting spot when staying in the vicinity. The Dutch annual museum pass is valid here.See more..

Streek Museum "Het Dorp van Bartje" is a museum which is partly devoted to artefacts from the area, partly to the children's author Anne de Vries, author of the books about a character called "Bartje". Bartje is well-known in Holland. He is a village boy who grows up in a poor farming family in the early 20th century, the same time that the author himself was a child. The characters in the book speak Drenthe dialect. The most famous quotation from the stories comes when his mother serves up brown beans, which he hates. When asked to say grace he refuses, exploding with (in modern Dutch) "Ik bid niet voor bruine bonen" ("I don't say grace for brown beans"). The family reaction from the strictly religious family can be imagined! Entrance to the museum is free of charge. There is a building (one room) which contains photos and letters of Anne de Vries and other documents relating to him (Anne can be a man's name in north Holland). Obviously it will only be of interest to Dutch speakers who are familiar with Bartje (I read the books during my childhood, part of which was spent in Holland). The main building contains a restaurant (brown beans are on the menu) and a large room with various local objects. Unfortunately these are thrown together in a rather chaotic mess, and the whole room rather resembles an attic which needs clearing out. There is no information anywhere. We do not know what period things come from (a variety it would seem). There is potential here for something interesting, but it needs complete reorganisation.See more..

4.5Miramar Zeemuseum(6 reviews) - What one woman has collected from beaches all over the world Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Natural History Museums
We found this little gem of a museum while visiting Drenthe province in the Netherlands. It houses the collection of sea shells and smaller sea animals all found by a dutch lady called Jeanne A.W. Warners (3 augustus 1899-3 juni 1986) on her travels to 80 different countries !! She started out as a nurse but later studied psychology at the University of Utrecht, sadly the second world war interrupted her studies. Later she opened a private practice of psychologie and started travelling. In 1955 she travelled to Palma de Mallorca from where she brought home her first shell the Bolinus brandaris (stekelhoorn). This inspired the rather strongwilled and exentric Jeanne to visit more than 80 countries searching for sea shells, crabs, starfish and other sea animals. She also visited universities abroad and saw it as her life mission to educate people about the sea and its inhabitants. Even Redmond O'Hanlon has found his way to this museum. The museum is small but very inviting and also geared toward educating the young. They develop different educational material for teaching different age groups. There is a small cafe and it has a nice gift shop. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.See more..

4.5Museum Collectie Brands(3 reviews) - Een “omreis” waard Tuesday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Speciality Museums
See more..
See more..
