Possibly one of the major museums in Yaroslavl
If you are looking for an art gallery, then the Yaroslavl Art Museum is the right place to start a tour. Being the former residence house of the Yaroslavl Governors during the Russian Empire time, this large estate-like building offers an insight into life of the XIXth-XXth century with various old furniture, tapestries, carpets and paintings. Aside from the main exposition you can also find temporary ones, quite often devoted to the famous artists of Russia and foreign countries from different time periods. If you visit the museum in Summer, don't forget to have a stroll in the gardens behind the main building – some peculiar sculptures can be found in this area. If you are still interested to continue exploring art, you can visit the second building outside the garden, where many foreign paintings are exhibited throughout the year (just about two years ago several works by the Bruegel artist line were shown there). The main building also boasts a large collection of really good souvenirs, both related to the art and Yaroslavl itself.

    A Step Back in Time
From the moment you arrive, you step back in time. The young women docents are dressed in lovely period dresses. The furnishings and art in the museum are beautiful. As an added attraction, you are treated to a musical performance, first by a trio of piano, cello and violin and later a minuet danced by two young couples in period costumes. You are seated in chairs around the ballroom and the dancers (one man and one woman) come to the tourists and pick one to dance with them It is a fun way to end the tour.
