  4. 4.5 Alpe d'Huez (1.184 reviews)
    - Best beginner skiing ever !!!!!
    Ski & Snowboard Areas
    Alpe d'Huez image
Having booked a trip to Alpe d'Huez for six people this January with four beginner skiers I was a bit anxious. However the research paid off it was perfect, ideal for beginners with lots of easily accessed green runs to hone their skills on. There are a couple of interesting blues for when they improve and then a bit of a jump to confident red skiers with little in between. We had amazing conditions with blue skies and 4deg keeping the snow crisp all day and a fresh dump on the last day. Accommodation is easily accessed across the resort with an interesting lift system and the possibility to ski back on narrow roads. Lovely little town with plenty of shops supplying everything you could need and all a short walk. We will all definitely come back next January. See more..

  6. 4.5 La Plagne (970 reviews)
    - Skiing par excellence
    Ski & Snowboard Areas
    La Plagne image
Been to La Plagne many times. Less crowded than some of the other big resorts, with skiing for every standard. Some nice traditional villages low down and the added bonus of glacier skiing. Lots of cruising blue runs and some tough black runs. Excellent off piste with a guide. The link to the glacier needs to be modernised, otherwise queuing is never too bad, apart from in the main holidays. The link to Les Arcs makes this a huge area. Plenty to do on bad weather days, with the outdoor pool and Escape Rooms in Bellecote, the Olympic Bobsleigh and a very nice cinema in Plagne Centre. Lots of bars and restaurants in the various parts of the resort, with more reasonable prices than the other Tarentaise ski areas. See more..
  7. 4.5 Tignes Ski Resort (900 reviews)
    - A bucket list for your time in Tignes...
Spent More than 3 hours Ski & Snowboard Areas
    Tignes Ski Resort image
Having done a season in Tignes, I am undoubtedly biased. However, it has so much to offer: perfect skiing conditions, no waiting times for lifts, and a huge ski area. The proximity to Val D'Isere makes it even more desirable, yet the prices in Tignes are noticeably cheaper. A quick bucket list for Tignes from someone who knows it well: 1. Ski down from the grande Motte glacier (it provides the best runs in resort). 2. Go on the 'up and over lift' in Val D'Isere - ask a local and they will be able to direct you 3. Ski the Sache (down to Brevieres) and the Olympique (into Val D'Isere) if you want to experience the most challenging runs 4. Dance on a table at Coco-ricos in Tignes (the best apres ski available) 5. Visit La Foile Douce - the home of apres on the mountain. Bon Voyage!!! See more..

    La Clusaz image
It’s a lovely town with plenty of great places to eat and bars to visit. The skiing is good too. Mainly blue and red runs so nothing too hard. It’s fairly large but you’d cover all the runs in a couple of full days. You might want a larger resort if you are staying a week or be prepared to visit some local resorts to have a wider range of skiing. See more..

  16. 4.5 Courchevel (484 reviews)
    - Great Option For The 3 Valleys
    Ski & Snowboard Areas
    Courchevel image
Sitting beside its big brother (Courchevel) La Tania is a quiet little resort with a gondola (and a drag) leading you out of the village onto hundreds of kilometres of piste - without paying the 'big brother' price! Leading back into resort is a friendly little green run through the forest or a great blue that would add a challenge to beginners without putting them off. There are also a couple of reds and a nice black - that leads to the neighbouring Le Praz (and an easy chair lift back) . I would recommend a whole area lift pass to get the most out of the Three Valleys but La Tania is a great place to start. See more..

  18. 4.5 St Martin de Belleville (265 reviews)
    - Lovely village
    Ski & Snowboard Areas
    St Martin de Belleville image
Beautiful village centre with lots of good sunny spots to relax after time on slopes or during the non ski season. Free parking is great - too many places trying to cash in with paid car parks in France, and driving away visitors. St Martin do not do this and it makes a village with lots of steep slopes much more accessible. See more..

  20. 4.0 La Rosière (248 reviews)
    - A traditional resort that tries harder
    Ski & Snowboard Areas
    La Rosière image
Just had a weeks skiing in La Rosiere, I've skied here for more than twenty years and I can only think of one year when poor snow cover was a problem. I don't know of a friendlier or more helpful village. It's high at 1850 metres with pistes from 2800 metres down to 1170 metres- AWESOME! Over 160 kilometres of pistes in France and Italy on a single lift pass, which is terrific value compared to the mega resorts nearby. Masses of off-piste as well, no surprise that the three times world champion extreme skier comes from the village. Most of the pistes are south facing son it's sunny as well, in seven days six were sunnier. A bien tout La Rosiere jusque Mars. See more..

My first ever ski lessons with Christophe have been excellent! Had an amazing chance to be instructed by such a professional. He knows how to make you feel at ease if it’s your first time skiing and definitely the person you can have a good laugh on the slopes. He is the right person to challenge you while motivating so you can have the best result in a short time. Also I want to say a big thank you again for all the incredible emotions I got to experience on the slopes, till the next year! Ionela See more..
  23. 4.0 Monts Jura (91 reviews)
    - A beautiful spot in our back yard
    Ski & Snowboard Areas
    Monts Jura image
The Jura is home to the largest nature preserve in France, and many rare animals and birds. I walk there every afternoon for 5 months a year. Personally I don't like Lelex, a large Nordic ski centre scars the landscape when there is no snow on the ground, but try the other valleys and tiny winding roads. There is a small road that goes from Lelex to Natua which is charming. My favourite area of the Jura is on the east side around Ardois and Polligny, lovely vineyards and a medeval town. Also the UNESCO world heritage site of the salt works in Salins-Les-Bains in the centre is charming and interesting. See more..
  24. 4.0 La station du Lioran (62 reviews)
    - A Secret Corner
Spent More than 3 hours Ski & Snowboard Areas
    La station du Lioran image
We have skied here for 6 years, its a typical 1970's French ski resort although the lift system has mostly been updated over the last few years, the Baguet being a fast, comfortable 6 man taking you to half mountain. Lift passes are very reasonable, 142 euros for 6 days, there are 40 pistes approx. 60km but these can be comfortably done in a couple of days. There are only a few restaurants on the mountain, one at the top of the gondola, one at the top of the Baguet chairlift and one over the other side at the Prat de Bouc. Having said that there are plenty at the base to chose from Nice runs, plenty of tree cover but does suffer when there's not much snow as its quite a low lying resort. Due to it not being busy this is a great resort for families. See more..
