A beautiful spot in our back yard

The Jura is home to the largest nature preserve in France, and many rare animals and birds. I walk there every afternoon for 5 months a year. Personally I don't like Lelex, a large Nordic ski centre scars the landscape when there is no snow on the ground, but try the other valleys and tiny winding roads. There is a small road that goes from Lelex to Natua which is charming. My favourite area of the Jura is on the east side around Ardois and Polligny, lovely vineyards and a medeval town. Also the UNESCO world heritage site of the salt works in Salins-Les-Bains in the centre is charming and interesting.

Multifaceted ski and summer hiking resort with 4 sites and both downhill and crosscountry ski. Great views in some.
A favorite of the Geneva town dweller because of its proximity in the Jura Mountains and beautiful views in some parts over Mont Blanc and the full Alpine Chain across the Leman Lake, this is a multifaceted ski resort structured around 4 distinct locations. You will ski or walk back and forth between Switzerland and France... The LELEX site, also accessible from CROZET, is best for alpine skiing with 15 lifts including 2 telecabins, 26 pistes over 30 km and plenty of snow making machines to adjust to varying snowfalls. There is also a footpath and paths for snowhoeing to head over to Crets de la Neige. The MIJOUX site also accessible from COL DE LA FAUCILLE offers 10 downhill pistes . Better than Lelex for beginners. And for all offers from the top of Mont Rond a fantastic view over the Leman lake and the Alpine chain across including the beautiful Mont Blanc They claim the best mountain view in Europe. The LA VATTAY site linked to LA VALSERINE is very well known by Nordic skiers (cross country, langlauf) with 35 km of wonderful and well taken care of Nordic tracks. It attracts Nordic athletes who train there, and offers green, blue, red and black Nordic trails, both in forest and in beautiful open hilly terrain. Finally the site of MENTHIERES (in Chézery-Forens, France and accessible from Bellegarde 15km away) offers 10 downhill pistes and 2 for cross country. Don-t get confused by the single appellation Monts Jura, these are completely different and disconnected resorts. However their agreements allow use of same badges from downhill. Snow can be light or inexistant at the beginning of the season, so I would not book a Christmas vacation there, but by February it is a popular weekend destination for Geneva folks in need of fresh air and snow. Very unlike Alpine resorts, the apres ski scene is inexistant if not deadly, and the whole scene is unfashionable. This is more of a family resort.

    Review for the Luge only
I passed through here when staying nearby with my 2 sons age 8 and 12 and found the luge pretty much by chance so went back the following morning. My youngest doesn't often enjoy anything too scary but he absolutely loved it and so did I. My eldest went by himself and had great fun too, so much so we went again and at 6 euros each I though it pretty good value for money. The luge has brakes so you can control your speed.
