Haus der Natur, Austrian Alps, Austria

4.5 (1.001 reviews) Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Ranking #6 in Austrian Alps Speciality Museums

Gem at Salzburg

With the expectation of just visiting to see dinosaurs we have been amazed by the size of the museum. An aquarium, reptile exhibit, insects, human body, space, ice age, and so much more. But definitely also the science lab that allows kids and “young feeling adults “ to experiment and have a great time. Expected to stay for an hour or two, had been there for 5 hours until they had to close the doors for the day. A gem at Salzburg.

Especially interested kids and teenagers will love it!
Generally: The "Haus der Natur" is a natural history and technical museum. It offers the visitor a variety of showrooms and exhibitions on the most diverse areas of animate and inanimate nature. There is, among other things, the "dinosaur hall", the "space hall", an aquarium with many show basins, many reptile tanks ... the science center, with topics on physics, such as energy, sound, acoustics, ... a lot of crystals and other stones, which are exhibited, and and and ... A lot can be explored and learned through play, as there are a lot of offers where you can do something yourself. It is interesting, varied and attractively designed. You can quickly spend a day in it without getting bored (especially kids and teenagers). My personal opinion: The topics are simply explained so that children and young people in particular can learn and experience a lot. Even for technically, physically not too verified people, this is definitely a great experience and gives a lot to marvel at. However, the "Haus der Natur" is more adapted to children, young people, school classes and people who are not interested in science. It's more playful and less deep and challenging. People with a good basic science education will learn less new things, but they will still find it nice. Conclusion: Very interesting and worthwhile, especially for families with children / tennegaers, and people with a little less scientific knowledge, but who are interested in science A great thing on a rainy day, but not only. € 8 entry is absolutely justified.

    Incongruous museum offering something different
We wouldn't have considered visiting this museum had it not been a wet afternoon and included on the list of attractions covered by the Salzburg Card. I can't say it was really our cup of tea: a traditional and surprisingly large natural history museum combined with an interactive science museum. But if we'd had kids with us they would have been kept entertained and this is reflected in my rating.
